Description

No. '67I,496. Patented Apr. 9, 190i.
W. SCOTT.
FORM LIFTER FOR PRINTING PRESSES,
(Application filed Kay 11, 1900.)
(No Model.)
. WITNESSES u w gggmrom By his Attorey NITED STATES PATENT OFFIC WALTER SCOTT, OF PLAINFIELD, NEIV JERSEY.
FORM-LIFTER FQR PRINTING-PRESSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 671,496, dated April 9, 1901.
Original application filed February 2, 1897, Serial No. 621.677. Divided and this application filed May 11, 1900. Serial This application is a division of my application for Letters Patent of the United States filed on the 2d day of February, 1897, Seria No. 621,677.
The present invention relates to means for facilitating the removal of lithographic and other forms from box-like beds or form-carriers in which the forms are set or fixed.
In the practice of the present invention I sometimes attach a lever to the bed, at one side thereof, and recess the bed or carrier un der the form, the lever extending into said recess and under the form. By preference the axis of motion of the lever is parallel to the printing-surface of the stone or form, and the lever is bent or formed with an arm parallel to its axis of motion. The said arm of the lever extends into said recess and under the form and by preference is round, so as to afford a minimum of friction and to prevent injury to the stone or form. The upper end of the lever is adapted to receive a wrench or the like, whereby the eii'ective leveagre on the form or stone may be increased and the size of the lever which is permanently attached to the bed be reduced to a minimum.
The preferred formof the invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side elevation, partly in section, upon the plane indicated by the line 1 l in Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The reference letter T indicates a flat form or type bed or carrier having a box-like formreceiver, and f indicates a lithographic stone or form thereon.
m is a lever fulcrumed on or pivoted at p to a side wall of the box of the bed T and is provided with a round arm or pin 12, which extends parallel with the axis 1) and under the form f, the bed T being suitably recessed transversely, as at 0, to allow the arm n to so (No model.)
extend. The upstanding arm of the lever on is adapted to receive a wrench or lever 10, by means of which greater purchase on the stone or form to be lifted is obtained.
By the described means the removal of lithographic or other forms from box-like beds or carriers is greatly facilitated, since the lever tilts or lifts the form to a position such that the hand may be inserted thereunder to take hold thereof for removal, or bars may be inserted underneath the stone, over which it may he slid and removed.
The invention may be embodied in forms other than that shown in the drawings and above described. I do not, therefore, limit myself to the precise form of the invention above described, and shown in the drawings.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States. is-
1. In a printing-press, a lever fulcrumed on the form-carrier and one end thereof normally extending under and engaging directly with the form for tilting the same from the carrier to facilitate its removal therefrom, the other end thereof being adapted to receive a wrench or extension, substantially as described.
2. In a printing-press, a lever pivoted on the form-carrier on an axis parallel to the surface and at right angles to the adjacent side of the form and provided with an arm parallel to said axis and extending under and engaging directly with the form for lifting the same from the carrier to facilitate its removal therefrom, substantially as described.
3. In a printing-press, the combination of a fiat bed provided with a box-like form-receiver and recessed under the form, anda 1ever fulcrumed on said bed and one end thereof extending into said recess and under and engaging directly with the form or stone for lifting the same from the bed to facilitate its removal therefrom and the other lever end beingadapted to receive a wrench or extension, substantially as described.
Signed at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 3d day of May, A. D. 1900.
, WALTER SCOTT.
