APPARATUS FOR WASHING PHOTOGRAPHIE OR OTHER PRINTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 671i,466, dated- April 9, 1901.

Beit known that I, HARRY Boon YER BROOK- ETT, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Washing Photographic or other Prints; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in tanks or trays for Washing photographic and other prints.
I shall now describe the invention so that others skilled in the art may manufacture and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication, in which- Figure l is a top plan view of the tank, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
In the drawings, 2 represents the tank,which is, as shown, preferably ovoid in shape, although, as will be understood, it may be made in other forms and configurations. At the narrow end of the tank is provided the watersupply pipe 3, entering at the top of the tank and extending to the bottom thereof. Near the upper edge of the tank is a series of overflow-openings 4. Extending across the tank near the bottom and surrounding the pipe 3 is a shelf or bracket 5. As will be seen, at the front of the shelf, between it and the bottom of the tank, is a slit or space 6, forming a long narrow passage for the discharge of the Water into the tank. About midway between the top and bottom of the tank is a small hole 7 in the pipe 3 for discharging a portion of the water into the tank in a small horizontal jet, and near the top of the pipe and of the tank, but below the level of the overow-openings 4, is a small downwardlyinclined water-discharge pipe S.
The device in use is usually set in an ordinary sink, the supply-pipe 3 being connected to the water-supply by a hose and the water iiowing away through the overflow-openings e into the ordinary waste-discharge passage of the sink.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The ph otographic or other prints being placed in the water in tank, the water is turned on at the supply-pipe 3 and flowing through the narrow slit G creates a current in the tank, which keeps the water and the prints therein continually in circulation until the saine are thoroughly washed. The Yfunction of the water-discharge orifice 7 in the pipe 3 is to create a current to carry away any prints that may tend to collect in the neighborhood of the pipe, and that of the inclined pipe S is to give a downward direction to the water coming therefrom, so as to drive the prints away from the upper surface of the water and down into the current flowing.. through the slit G. With my improved device the prints maybe carelessly thrown into the tank, and by reason of the different currents created by the different discharge-orifices from the pipe 3 they are kept separated and continuallyin motion under the water and thoroughly washed.
It will be apparent that various modifications may be made in the details of construction of my improved print-washer without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, since Vhat I claim isl. In print-washing apparatus, a tank, and a water-supply pipe extending downinto the tank at one end and having at its lower end a long narrow orifice opening into the tank so as to discharge the water in a horizontal direction along the bottom of the tank.
2. In print-washing apparatus, a tank, a water-supply pipe having a long narrow discharge-opening at its lower end, and a discharge-opening in the pipe located above said bottom discharge-opening.
In print-washing apparatus, a tank, and a water-supply pipe, said pipe having a long narrow discharge-opening at its lower end, and a downwardly-inclined water-discharge pipe extending from said supply-pipe near the normal level of the water in the tank.
