Description

No. 670,709'. Patented nar.. 26, mol. J. B. GEBHARDT.
' HARRDW.
(Application led Ont. 27, 1900.) (Nn Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN BOB GEBI'IARDT, OF PETERSBURG, IOWA.
HARROW.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 670,709, dated March 26, 1901.
Application led October 27. 1900. Serial No. 34,652. (No model.)
T0 all whom, it 1v1/ty concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOHN BOB GEBHARDT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Petersburg, in the county of Delaware and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved I-Iarrow, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a hinge for connecting sections of a harrow so that the sections may be extended rigidly or folded one on the other to reduce the size of the harrow when desired.
This specification is a specic description of one form of the invention, while the claim is a definition of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section of the hinge. Fig. 3 is an enlarged section showing the hinge in Open position, and Fig. et is an enlarged plan view of the parts arranged as in Fig. 3.
As shown in Fig. l, the harrow is formed in two sections, a representing the section of the draw-bar connected with the main part of the harrow, and a representing the section of the drawbar connected with the smaller section of the harrow. The sections a and a' of the draw-bar have diagonally-dis posed meeting edges 61,2, and to the sections a. and a' are respectively attached the sections b and b' of the hinge which connects the two parts together. These sections b and b are rigidly fastened to the sections of the drawbar, and the pintle of the hinge is located at one side of the joint between the sections a. and ct, so that the section a may fold over on top of the section ct, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. For the purpose of holding the two sections of the draw-bar rigidly extended I provide a sleeve c, which slides over the hinge-section b and the draw-bar section a' and which is held removably in place by a bolt d, which is passed through openings in the sleeve c and through matching recesses d3, formed in the edges a2 of the draw-bar sections. When this sleeve c is in place, the sections of the draw-bar are held rigid and the harrow cannot be folded until the bolt d is removed and the sleeve c is carried to the p osition, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentp A harrow, having adraW-bar formed in two sections, a hinge connecting the sections, the pintle of the hinge being located at one side of the meeting edges of thedraw-barsections, a sleeve arranged to slide on the draw-bar to encircle the same at the joint between the meeting edges so as to hold the sections rigid, and a pin or bolt passing through the sleeve and between the draw-bar sections at the meeting edges thereof.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JOHN BOB GEBHARDT.
