NTTED STATES PATENT FFICE.
JOSEF FEDERMANN, OF KATTOWITZ, GERMANY.
SPITTOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,984, dated March 19, 1901.
Application filed February 6, 1900. Serial No. 4,280l. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t ma/y concern/f Be it known that I, JOSEF FEDERMANN, merchant, of Kattowilz, in the Province of Silesia, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spittoons, of which the following is a full and clear description.
The object ofthe present invention is a spittoou provided in its interior with a pump and a divided tank. In the larger part of the tank there is received the liquid mixed with spitlle, while there is in the smaller part a disin-i fecting liquid. ,From the smaller part the pump is sucking the disinfecting liquid and throws it against the wall of the Lipper funnel.
The accompanying drawings representthe spittoon in Figure l in a cross-section, and in Fig. 2 a part of the spittoon in a plan view.
The funnel a, which receives the spittle, is shut at its bottom end by a movable plate b. At the outside of the spittoon there is an arm provided with a foot-plate, and as soon as one treads on the latter the arm `c of the plate b is turned. The latter swings downward and is cleaned in the liquid which is in the larger compartment d of the tank e. The smaller division f of the latter is filled with a disinfecting liquid into which the pipe g of a pump h is projecting. The pump is connected with the plate b in such a manner that the same also is actuated as soon as the plate b is moved downward. It then presses the disinfecting liquid through the pipe i and one or more nozzles, as K, into the funnel portion a, thus thoroughly Washing and cleaning the same.
The pump is operated on the depression of the tread-plate through an arm n, extending from the shaft o, to which the arm o is secured, connected by a link r to the plunger s of the pump, the parts being returned by a spring t.
I claimm l. mThe combination with a spittoon having a central depending funnel, of a chamber therein adapted to contain a disiufecting liquid, a pump having a pipe extending into the same, a nozzle arranged to discharge against the wall of the funnel having a pipe connection to the pump, a plate closing the end of the funnel, a shaft carrying the same, a connection between said shaft and the plunger of the pump and means for rocking the shaft, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a spittoon having a central depending funnel, of a chamber' therein adapted to contain a disinfectiug liquid, a pump having a pipe extending into the same, a nozzle arranged to discharge against the wall of the funnel having a pipe connection to the pump, a plate closing the end of the funnel, a shaft carrying the same, a connection between said shaft and the plunger of the pump and means for rocking the shaft, said means comprising a tread-plate, and an arm secured to the shaft carrying the same, substantially as described. i
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEF FEDERMANN.
