To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, FRANKLIN H. GILSo'N, of \Vellesley, in the county of Middlesex, and HERBERT W. GLEASON, of Boston, in the county of Snfiolk, State of Massachusetts,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sections for Separable Books, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to separable albums or other books comprising a series of leaves or sections detachably connected to each other and to a cover by means of a cord passed through holes in the cover and through slots in the edges of the leaves or sections, as shown, for example, in Letters Patent of the United States No. 584,997, dated June 22, 1897.

Heretofore each leaf or section has been a relatively thick and stiff single sheet designed to be used as a mount upon which photographic prints are to be pasted. The present invention has for its object to enable a thin sheet of paper to be used in producin g an album-section which shall be adapted for use as a frame to conceal the edges of a photographic print and display the main or body portion thereof through an opening in the section, the invention also having for its object to enable the sections of a detachable album to be made of relatively thin paper without unreasonably sacrificing strength.

Theinvention consists in the improvements which we will now proceed to describe and claim.

Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing an album-section having two leaves or plies which are separable from each other, the said leaves being shown as partially separated. Fig. 2 represents a similar view showing the leaves brought together. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view showing a sheet that may be used as a part of the section shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or as a complete album-section. Fig.

In the drawings, (1 represents an albumsection composed of a sheet of relatively thin paper folded at a to form two leaves or flaps a (1. which are of uniform size and shape. The prints to be mounted may be secured to the inner sides of the leaves a by being gummed directly thereto or by means of gummed strips secured in part to the leaves a and in part to the back sides of the prints.

When the sheet b is used in this way, the prints to be mounted are placed on it in such position that they will coincide with the openings a of the l leaves a the whole constituting a three-leaf or layer section adapted to be assembled with other sections and secured to a cover by means of a cord, as shown in the above-mentioned patent.

We claim 1. A separable book-section comprising a sheet composed of relatively thin paper folded centrally to form two layers or leaves joined together by an integral joint or fold, and each having a picture-exposing opening and cord-receiving slots, the opening and slots of each leaf coinciding with the opening and slotsof the other leaf when the leaves are brought together, the said slots being located adjacent to the edge opposite the fold in the sheet.
