FRANK M. KAMPEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GAM E-TALLY DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent NO. 665,163, dated January 1, 1901.
Application filed February 26, 1900. Ya'erial l lo. 6,4592. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK M. KAMPEL, a citizen of Poland, residing at New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game-Tally Devices, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to game-tally devices; and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class whereby the score or tally of the several games, particularly dice-games, may be readily kept count of.
My invention embodies a plurality of movable bodies each numbered or configured to represent a point or points in the game; and the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter specified.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views, Figure 1 is a plan view of a game-tally device constructed according to my invention; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof, several of the parts being shown in full lines.
In the practice of my invention I provide a closed casing 8, having sides 4, ends 5, and a top plate 6, which in the embodiment of my invention as shown in the drawings and which consists of a tally device preferably for dicegames is divided into two sections 6 and 6 each of which is plurally circularly bored at 7, as shown in Fig. 2.
Frictionally slidably mounted in the bores 7 in the sections 6 and 6 are respectively a plurality of cylindrical bodies 8 and 9, the bodies 8 being arranged in ten transverse series of ten each and the bodies 9 being arranged in seven transverse series of ten each. Each of the bodies 8 in each of the ten transverse series of the sections (5 bears upon its uppermost end or face a different numeral or symbol, consisting of the figures 2, 8, 644:)? ((5777 6 6,77 6; 8,77 l9, (10777 (11977 counting from left to right of the top plate. The several bodies 9 of the several transverse upon their upper ends or faces, bearing no symbols or characters of any sort whatsoever. Each end 5 of the casing is slotted at 10, and arranged within the casing adjacent each end is a block 11, to each of which is pivoted at 12 a lever-arm 18, provided with a fingerpiece 14, which projects through the adjacent slot 10. The inner end of each of the lever-arms 13 carries a knob or head 15, and loosely mounted upon said knobs or heads and having an area approximately equivalent to the area of the top plate 6 is a lifterplate 16, having vertical play in the casing, such play being limited by a shoulder 17, formed upon the inner surface of the sides and ends of the casing. Secured at one end to each of the blocks 11 is a plate-spring 18, the free end of each of which bears upon the under surface of the adjacent lever-arm 13, the said springs normally maintaining the lifter-plate 16 in elevated position, as shown in Fig. 2, in which position it engages feet or lugs 19, one of which is formed upon the lower surface of each of the bodies 8 and 9, maintaining said bodies in raised position, whereby they project above the top plate 6, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The potential of the springs 18 is relatively small, and the friction of the bodies 8 and 9 in the bores '7 is relatively great, whereby when one of said bodies is depressed in its bore it will maintain the lifter-plate 16 in lowered position. The transverse series of bodies 8 and 9 form also longitudinal series of said bodies, each of which series contains ten bodies 8 in the section (5, bearing, respectively, the nu m- 2,97 4t 3,77 i 4:777 CC 5,77 C 6,77 (4 8,77 4 9,77 10,77 11, and 12, and seven bodies 9 in the section 6, the upper faces of which are plane, and in the progress of the game each player chooses one of said longitudinal series. As each player throws the dice the sum of the symbols or spots on the dice, which are usually two in number, is tallied by depressing one of the bodies 8 in case such sum is more or less than seven, and in case seven be the total one of the bodies 9 is depressed, each of said bodies 9 standing for one total seven. According to the rules of the game whichever player first or last shall in rotation throw sufficient seven combinations to cause in tallyseries in the section 6 are preferably plane ing the depression of all of the bodies 9 in the respective longitudinal series of such player wins or loses the game. After the game has been ended the finger-pieces 14 are depressed, raising the lifter-plate 16 and the bodies 8 and 9, preparing the latter for a new game.
It is manifest that numerous rearrangements of parts and alterations of construction may be made within the scope of my i11- vention adapting the same to a plurality of games, and I do not therefore limit myself to the specific construction and arrangement of parts herein specified.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A game-tally device of the class described, comprising a casing provided with a top plate, said top plate being plurally bored, movable bodies frictionallyslidably mounted in the bores in said top plate, and each bearing a score-symbol, a lifter-plate mounted within said casing and arranged to engage and raise said bodies, and levers mounted in said casing and arranged to raise said lifterplate, said levers being provided with fingerpieces which project from said casing, and
whereby said lifter-plate may be manipulated, substantially as shown and described.
2. A game-tally device of the class described, comprising a casing provided with a top plate, said top plate being plurally bored, movable bodies frictionally slidably mounted in the bores in said top plate, and each bearing a score-symbol, alifter-plate mounted within said casing and arranged to engage and raise said bodies, and levers mounted in said casing and arranged to raise said lifterplate, said levers being provided with fingerpieces which project from said casing, and whereby said lifter-plate may be manipulated, and tension devices whereby said levers are actuated, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myinvention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 23d day of February, 1900.
FRANK M. KAMPEL.
