SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 661,948, dated November 20, 1900.

Be it known that I, SOLOMON BooKnEIM,
: a citizen of the United States, residing at Albany, Albany county,New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved non-refillable bottle.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows a vertical sectional view of my bottle ready to be filled; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the bottle and its parts when empty; Fig. 3, a cross-section of Fig. 1, taken on line A A of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4, a cross-section of Fig. 2, taken on line B B of that figure.
The numeral 1 shows the body of the bottle having a swell at its lower end 3 and a draw-off cock 2. In the body of the bottle is a piston 4, having a packing 5, and underneath and to the piston is attached a wire 9, which passes through an opening in the bottom and is knotted so as to hold the piston 4 from rising into the bottle before it is filled, the spring 8 being introduced under the piston, so as to force the piston into the bottle and force out the contents when the wire is broken or untied. The bottom 6 is a separate piece from the bottle proper and is supplied with a flange 6, which abuts against a flange on the swell 3, as seen, and bottom 6 is preferably in cup form, as seen, so as'to hold the spring 8. Resting on the flange 6 is a spring 7, (plainly seen in Fig. 5,) and its uses are as follows: When the bottom 6 is to be introduced in the swell 3, the spring 8 is set therein and piston 4 introduced in the bottle, as seen in Fig. 1. Then bottom 6 is introduced and forced upward until the flange 6 comes to rest against the flange on the swell 3, when the spring 7 will have expanded so that one wing of it will rest on the upper surface of the flange on the swell and the other on the inner surface or top side of the flange 6, and the spring 8 will then be compressed against the bottom of the piston.
When so introduced the bottom 6 cannot be again removed, as spring 7 will prevent removing it. The bottle may be filled before the piston and bottom areintroduced,or it may be filled by introducing the liquid through the cock 2; but after being once filled and emptied the piston will rest in the top of the bottle, as seen in Fig. 2, and will cover the inlet-mouth of the cock 2, so that no more liquid can be introduced. When the bottle is filled, the wire 9 is out, which lets the piston force the liquid'upward and out of the cock 2 when that cock is open.
This invention is an improvement over that shown in my application, Serial No. 6,842, filed February 28, 1900, in this that the bot tom 6 is made separate from the bottle and is constructed so as to be made permanently fast in place when introduced in position.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A non-refillable bottle having an outle and a piston arranged to be forced through the bottle and force the liquid out of the outlet, said piston having a resilient device arranged to cause it to be forced through the bottle and a holding device arranged to hold the piston at its lowest point until the bottle is filled, and havinga bottom for the bottle separate therefrom arranged to be inserted in the bottom and when so inserted to be non-removable therefrom, substantially as described.
2. A non-refillable bottle and a piston therein arranged to move through the bore of the bottle and a resilient device arranged to force the piston through the same and having means for holding the piston fast until the bottle is filled and having a cup-shaped bottom separate from the bottle, said bottom being arranged to be inserted in the lower open end of the bottle and having a resilient device arranged to hold the bottom immovably in place and a closable outlet for the bottle that the same may be emptied substantially as described.
