EIETY-ONE.
HERSCHEL P. COPELAND, OF`\JERSEY CITY,
ELECTRIC FUSEi SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 661,498, dated November 13, 1900. Application filed anusry 4, 1900. Serial No. 364. (No model.)
Beit known that I, JOSHUA LIONEL COHEN, a citizen of the United States,`residing in New York, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Explosive Fuses; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it perta ns to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my present invent-ion is to provide an electric fuse or cap .that will produce a flash and burn with a llame when an excessive current of electricity is sent through it.
The in vention consists in theimproved fuse or cap and in the combination and arrangement of the Various parts, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described, and nally embodied in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1n responding parte in each ofthe several views, Figures l tela, inclusive, illustrate side views of f'ourforms in which my fuses or caps may be made; Figs. 1f* to 4A, inclusive, top views; and Figs. 2A and 3^' In said drawings, ducting combustible wood, or cardboard.
B represents any s ui table substance or comedge views. A represents a non-conwhich like letters of reference indicate cor` substance, such as fiber,
pound'that will ignite and Hash When subjected to heat, such as sulfur or phosphorus; The substance or compound may be either dry, in paste,` or liquid form.
C represents a fuse-Wire which glows with a white heat when an excessive current of electricity is passed through it, being especially adapted for igniting the substance or com pound and causing it to flash and the combustible material to burn with a flame as a torch. i
D represents any conducting wire or m'aterial which may be soldered to the Wire C for the purpose of carrying an electric current to the fuse-Wire.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isn An electric ignitingdevice consisting of a -non-conductiug combustible material, a compound aixed thereto, and a conducting-wire adapted for igniting and dashing the com' pound and producing a flame in connection with the combustible non conducting material when an excessive current of electricity is applied thereto, substantially as shown, described and set forth herein as a new article Of manufacture.
