To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HERBERT FLANDERS, a resident of Manchestenin the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Case and Chair; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to a combined case, seat, and table, and has for its object to provide an inclosing case for a chair-seat adapted to constitute a part of the chair and having a cover suitable to serve as a table, said case being capable also of inclosing other articles,

such as a collapsible easel and artists mate-- rials.

The invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and pointed out.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of the device. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the device. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the device. Fig. 4 is a perspective of the case and chair. Fig. 5 is a perspective of the table. Fig. 6 is a broken perspective of a modification.

Numeral 1 denotes the case, having a handle 2 and corner-protectors 3. t

4 denotes a partial fixed cover, and 5 a detachable cover.- The cover 5 has hooks or lugs 6, which engage under the fixed cover 4, and 7 is a lock to secure said cover 5 in place when the lugs are so engaged.

8 denotes pairs of legs pivoted to cover 5 and provided, respectively, with pins 10 and holes 11, whereby when suitably moved about their pivots and crossed they can be connected or coupled and firmly support the cover used as atable. The table-legs, if un:

-coupled, can be folded within the cover 5 and inclosed in the case when its cover 5 is in place. It is not essential, however, to pivot the legs to the inside of the cover, and they may be thus connected to its sides on their outside, as indicated in Fig. 6.

The tie-rod 17 joins the contiguous leg and side-bar ends, as indicated, and one end of a strip 18 of canvas or other ,fiexible material is secured to said rod and to a rod or crossbar 19, held in the case under the fixed cover 4. This strip is of such length that when the legs and seat-frame are properlyadjusred for use the lower part of the strip will be suspended in an approximately horizontal plane and adapted to serve as the seat bottom. The books 20, pivoted in the case, may be engaged with staples or eyes 21 to hold the legs at right angles to the seat-frame, and the chains or cords 22 support the side bars of the seat-frame when said chains are engaged with the case, as by means of eyes or staples 23. The ledges formed by recesses9 support the side bars of the seat-frame above the bottom of the case, thereby leaving an unobstructed space below for a collapsible easel or other article or articles.

To put the seat into the case, the chains 22 and books 20 having been released from the staples and said hooks turned to a situation within the case, the side bars of the seatframe are folded down in recesses 9 and upon the ledges. The legs are then folded by turning the front seat-frame bar 13 on the rod 16 until they are parallel with the sides of the case and within the same. This straightens the canvas, and round 16 rests upon it. The hook-chains are thrown upon the canvas and the cover 5 can be applied and looked, as before described.

It will be understood that any other article or articlessuch as a collapsible easel, brushes, pencils, paper, and like artists materialsmay be placed in the bottom of the case before folding the chair-seat and other parts, as set forth. Some small articles can be placed in the case near its foot and adjacent the bat-13 after the seat-frame has been Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The combination of the case, the seatframe pivoted in the sides of the case, a flexible band connecting the front of the frame and the interior of the case and constituting a seat and partial back, and pivoted legs to support the frame and the seat part of the band in a horizontal plane, said case constituting the rear supporting-leg of the seatframe, and adapted to inclose the said frame, legs and band.

2. The combination of the case, the seatframe pivoted in recesses within the sides of the case, a flexible band connecting the front of the frame and the interior of the case and constituting a seat and partial back, and pivoted legs to support the frame and the seat part of the band in a horizontal plane, said case also constituting the rear supporting-leg of the seat-frame and adapted to inclose the said frame, legs and band.

3. In a combined case and chair, the seatframe pivoted in recesses within the sides of the case, a flexible band connecting the front of the frame and the case, and pivoted legs to support the frame and part of the band in a horizontal plane, said case supporting the rear of the seat-frame, a detachable casecover, and folding legs pivoted in said cover immediately above the recesses in the ease sides and holding the side bars of the seatframe when folded in said recesses.

4. In a combined case and chair, the seatframe pivoted in the sides of the case, a flexible band connecting the front of the frame and the case, and pivoted legs to support the frame and part of the band in a horizontal plane, said case supporting the rear of the seat-frame, and a detachable case-cover to hold the folded chair-seat frame in the case.

5. In a combined case and chair, a partial cover 4 fixed to the case to support the back of the chair occupant, a detachable cover 5, hooks on said latter coverengaging the fixed cover, and a catch to engage the opposite end of the detachable cover with the case.
