CLEMENT JUNO MATHYS, OF MOUNT VICTORY, OHIO.
CAKE-"CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 659,821, dated October 16, 1900.
Application filed July 14,1900. Serial No. 23,695. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern:
Beit known that I, CLEMENT JUNo MATHYS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mount Victory, in the county of Hardin and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cake-Cutters, of which nently to the top at O and held in contact (near 7 its middle) with the top by sliding clamp D and at its inner end by screw-clamp E. Beginning near the stationary end of the rim a slot F is cut in the top plate of the cutter in the shape of a spiral curve extending gradually inward toward the center, while nearly diametrically opposite is another slot G, extending inward and to one side of the center. On the under side of the top plate (on each side of the center) are two parallel mortised cleats or brackets H I, between the inner edges of which and the top plate of the cutter the cam edges or flanges K L of the small cutter or hole-cutter M fit. These edges may also be made to fit in two slits cut in the top plate instead of under the cleats.
The operation of my device is as follows: \Vhen it is desired to cut out cakes full size of the cutter, the screw-clamp is slid back to the outer edge of the slot F and tightened, when the cutter is ready for service. If it is desired to cut smaller cakes or biscuits, the screw-clamp is loosened and slid along the slot F, contracting the rim, as shown in dotted lines, until the circle described by the rim is of the size desired, when the screw-clamp is tightened and the cutter is ready for use again. As the free end of the rim is slid back and forth to expand or contract the rim the clamp D slides along in the groove G, holding the rim stable and firmly against the top plate.
If it is desired to cut the center out of the cake, as for j umbles or doughnuts, the flanges on the detachable circular cutter M are turned to fit under the projecting edges of the cleats H I, and when the outside circle is contracted the small cutter M is moved along, as shown by the dotted circle, conforming to the decreasing size of the outer circle and keeping in the center of the same.
My device can also be used as an adjustable bucket cover or lid to fit different-sized buckets, a raised strip being soldered over the slots.
What I claim is 1. In a cake-cutter, the top plate, the adjustable rim B, secured permanently at one end to said top plate and secured adjnstably at other points to said plate, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a cake-cutter a top plate having'slot-s F and G therein, the rim attached permanently thereto at one point, the adjustable screw-clamp, the sliding clamp engaging said slots F and G respectively, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a cake-cutter the top plate, an adjustable rim or cutting edge secured thereto, and an adjustable cutting-center, as and for the purpose set forth.
4. In a cake-cutter, the top plate A, having the slots F, G, the cutting edge attached permanently to said top plate at one point, the adjustable screw-clamp, the sliding clamp, and the adjustable center-cutter as and for the purpose set forth.
5. In a cake-cutter having an adjustable rim, the top plate, the adjustable and removable centercutter, having cam-flanges thereon, and the mortised cleats in said top plate, as and for the purpose set forth.
CLEMENT JUNO MATHYS.
