Description

No. 658,972. Patented 06f. 2,v |900. F.- B. AGLAB.
BRAKE BEAM.
(Application led` Apr. 9, 1900.)
(No Model.)`

UNITED STATES t.
PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS B. AGLAR, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO THE INTER- CHANGEABLE BRAKE BEAM BRAKE SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 658,972, dated October 2, 1900.
Application led April 9, 1900.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS B. AGLAE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brake-Beams, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved Inanner of constructing the lever-fulcrum of a brake-beam and of attaching it to the beam.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafer fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a perspective view of a brakebeam, showing my improvement. Fig.-II is a perspective view of the head ofthe fulcrum. Fig. III is a perspective view of the shank of the fulcruin. Fig. IV is an enlarged section taken on line IV IV, Fig. I. Fig. V is an enlarged section taken on line V V, Fig. IV.
Referring to the drawings, l represents the body of the beam; 2, thebrake-shoe heads; 3 the guard-fingers, 'and 4 the hanger-eyes, held in place by the guard-fingers.
5 represents the head of the lever-fulcrum, and 6 its stem or shank. The head is formed to fit the body of the beam, upon which it is held from movement by a bolt 7.
The face of the head 5 is formed with diagonally-arranged crossing dovetail grooves 8, adapted to receive a dovetail rib 9 on the serial No. 12,058. cro man.)
ment in the direction of its length by a bolt or screw l0. The stem is provided with the usual slot 1l to receive the brake-lever and With a hole 12 to receive the pivot-bolt of the lever.
By providing the head 5 with diagonal grooves to receive the stem of the fulcrum, the stem can be quickly and readily adjusted for either a right or left hand support for the lever, as circumstances may require.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a brake-beam, a lever-fulcrum consisting of ahead fitted to the beam and having diagonally-arranged grooves, and a stem having a rib adapted to fit and be held in said grooves in combination with the bolt 10, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a brake-beam, a lever-fulcrum consisting of a head having diagonally-arranged dovetail grooves, a stem having a dovetail rib adapted to fit in said grooves, and a bolt for holding said rib from movement in the direction of its length in said grooves, substantially as described.
3. ,In a brake-beam, a lever-fulcrnm comprising a head having diagonally-arranged dovetail grooves, a stem having a dovetail rip adapted to fitin said grooves, and the bolt for holding said rib from movement in the direction of its length in said groove.
