'fr0 .WHOM IT MAY GONOERN:
Bc it known that I, CHARLES LOUIS Zalman, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Machine for Making Match-Splints; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, making part-'of this specification.
This is an automatic contrivance for getting out match-splints more rapidly, and of greater uniformity,
i and economy of material than is now done by hand.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a machine embodying my invention.
Figure'2 is a. longitudinal sect-ion thereof. I
A A areparallel Ways or shears, suitably upheld on legsB B.l and under-cut a,` so as to conline and guide 'dove-tailed flanges C C that project from the under side of a carriage, D. A bridge, E, extending 'from side 'to side of the frame, and bestriding the lcarriage, has screwed or otherwise rmly secured to 'it a block, F, o' The rear portion D of the carriage has two' elevated sides G G so as to'make of it a trough or tray which receives the splints as fast as made. Screwed or otherwise firmly fixed to the carriage D is a steel bed, H, for the stuff. Between the bed H and the trough D Gr G is an opening or throat, I, for the escape of the shayings. Screwed or other- `wise secured transversely on the carriage, and over the throat, is my bit-plougln'consisting of a steel plate, J, armed beneath its front edge with a series of hollow cylindrical punches, K, chamfered externally to a sharp edge infront, and slightly. Haring rearward, substantially as shown in iig, 2.. The rcciprocation of the carriage is elfecte'd by crank L and'pitman M, or any other suitable appliances. The bits being all'formed-of one piece ofsteel, and having the rearwardly projecting plates or cheeks J J', are found to be much more durable than -any other fortuin customary use.
I claim as new, and oi' my invention- *The knife, constructed in one piece, with punches K K, and rearward prolongations J J', all as herein described and for the purposes specified. I
In testimony of Which-invention I hereunto set my hand.
