PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT DGRING, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY.
REVOLVING-HOOK SEWING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 657,525, dated September 1 1, 1900.
Application filed September 22, 1898. Serial No. 691,639. (No model.) V
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT DoRING, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Dresden, Kingdom of Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The invention consists in the features and combinations of features hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View, and Fig. 2 a plan view, of the invention. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of parts of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the threadlooper.
The subject of the present invention concerns an improvement in sewing-machines in which the looper is independent of the bobbin-case.
The subject-matter of the invention consists in that the bobbin-case obtains individually an oscillating or rocking movement for the purpose of accelerating the guiding of the bobbin-case through the thread-loop and to loosen or tighten the bobbin-thread at the proper moment. The whole device is arranged beneath the base-plate of the sewing-machine.
a is a stirrup.
b is a bracket supported in the stirrup a and adapted to oscillate, the connection between the part b and the stirrup consisting of a reduced portion or pintle fitting an opening in the stirrup. A link 0 is connected to the part b, and the upper end of this link is forked, as shown in Fig. 2, to embrace a cam e, which is mounted on a shaft 01, passing through the stirrup. The cam e is fixed to a vibrating looper e of. crank form having a horizontal arm adapted to seize, hold, and guide the loop of needle-thread. The loop is seized by the point e, held by the guide c and on further movement the loop is allowed to glide 01f the rear part 6 Fig. l, being held open and guided over the bobbin-case f. The looper operates around the said bobbin-case, which is arranged ina holder hinged to the part b.
A cymbal-shaped case the part b, Fig. 3.
The holder comprises a cylinder h, pivotally connected to the part b at 'i and held in position by the part 70. The cylinder 71, has a handle Z, by which it may be moved toward and from the part g, and on said handle a lever m is pivoted, which operates va spring-bolt n, so that said bolt may be projected into the eye of the bobbin, and thus prevent the bobbinoase from falling down when the cylinder h is'swung back, as shown in Fig. 3. On the periphery of the cylinder h is arranged the needle-guard 0, which prevents contact of the looper-point with the needle. A nose-piece p, at the bottom of the cylinderinside thereof, and at the side a light flat spring q are provided for the purpose of supporting the bobbin-case. A spring 7* on the case g also serves to support the bobbin-case.
In operation when the shaft d is rocked the looper 6 receives an oscillating motion and the point e seizes the loop of needle-thread, so that on further movement of the looper the loop of thread is expanded and glides from the rear part c over the bobbin-case. same time the part carrying the bobbin-case receives a reciprocating motion from the cam 6 and the bracket 1), which motion efi ects the loosening and retightening of the bobbinthread.
I claim-- In combination in a sewingmachine, a thread-looper comprising an oscillating arm, a shaft carrying said arm, a cam on said shaft, a bobbin-case holder, means for oscillating said holder in a direction transversely of the end of the looper-shaft, said means comprising a pivoted stirrup I) having a link engaging and oscillated by the cam of the looper-arm substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses,
ALBERT DORING.
g is rigidly secured to Witnesses:
HERNANDO DE Soro, PAUL AREAS.
