NECKTlE-FASTENER.

SIPLECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,573, dated August 21, 1900.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALBERT L. SHANTZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of 513 Robeson street, Reading, county of Berks, and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs,fo1'ming a part thereof, in which similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to imprdvements in necktie-fasteners; and the object thereof is to provide an efficient article of this character which is adapted for attachment to a necktie and fol-assembling parts of the tie without the necessity of using threads.

The device is durable, inexpensive, and light in weight, and it does not in any manner mar the appearance of the tie to which it is attached.

The invention will be hereinafter fullydescribed, and specifically set forth in the annexed claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figures 1 and 2 are views in planof two blanks employed in the construction of the fastener. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastener complete; Fig.

4, a rear View illustrating the device attached to a bow tie, and Fig. 5 a detail sectional plan View taken on a line X X of Fig. 4.

In the practice of my invention I employ a blank A and a blank 13, both composed of malleable sheet metal. The blank A embodies the base-plate a, the side walls 01,, the projecting plates a and the tongue (1, each side wall a, being provided with edge serrations or teeth 1, adapted for engagement with the material ofa necktie. Spurs 2 are also provided for fastening the tie to its shield, all of the said parts being form ed integral from a single sheet of metal. The blank B embodies a keyhole-shaped loop I), longitudinal bars I), and a lip II". The operation and use of the device are obvious. The loop I) is forced away from the tie by' swinging it within its bearings to a sufficient extent to allow of attachment with the collar-button of the wearer. The tie is then swung upwardly and the shield ends placed beneath the collar in the customary manner, the small part of the loop 2) being engaged around the shank of the collar-button to prevent accidental removal of the tie.

I do not confine myself to the exact shape or specific construction of the several parts of the device as herein shown and described, as it is obvious that I am entitled to variations necessary for ties of different shape.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A necktie-fastener to be secured between the bow, and the pasteboard base of such tie,
