To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LWILLIAM F. MARKHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Wayne andState of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Guns, of which the following is a specilication,reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to air-guns of the type commonly known as breakdown guns, and has particular reference to the novel means employed for connecting the barrel with lche stock to permit the breaking to be effected. i
The invention consists in the novel construction of a connect-ing device of this character and in the peculiar manner in which it is combined with the gun barrel and stock, as will be more fully hereinafter shown and described.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of an air-gun embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the connecting device. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the connecting device is formed; and Fig. 4 is a section taken on line new, Fig. 2. p p In the drawings thus briefly referred to the letter A represents the stock of the gun,which is provided with a housing B, adapted to receive and to have pivotallyl connected therein the connecting device, hereinafter described.
O designates the gun-barrel, which extends forwardly of the stock in the usual manner, the usual piston and springs contained in the barrel not being shown, as they form no part of the present invention.
D designates the connecting device,which, as stated, has a pivotal connection with the stock A and extends beneath the barrel C, forming the support for the latter. This connection referred to is so formed as to constitute a housing for the trigger, a forearm for the gun-barrel, and a fulcrum-arm which is connected to the stock by means of a pivotpin a. The connecting device, which is and will be hereinafter referred to as ay housing is preferably formed from a single sheet-metal blank E, having preferably a squared end F and a tapering end G. The blank is then bent at right angles to the sides along the lines g and h, one marginal portion being folded over the other, as shown in the figure last referred to", to form the housing-top M. The portions/i c" are bent along the lines j j' and are curved, as
shown in Fig. 2, to form bearing-anges A2 for the inner end of the barrel.

shown in Fig. 2, the aperture and the marginal portions forming, respectively, a recess AB in the under side of the housing and a slotted cover for the recess,through which the trigger A4 is adapted to extend. One end of the housing thus described is apertured, as at a2, and is adapted to extend within the metallic housing B, as shown in Fig. l, the parts being connected by the pivot-pin referred to. The opposite end of the housing has the beveled or inclined end, the bevel extending from the housing B forward and beneath the gun-barrel constituting the forearm. The barrel is secured to the iianges suitable manner, as by brazing. It will be observed that the connecting device thus formed is composed of two separated vertical side plates tied together and braced apart by the bottom and top members K and M; also, that the forward end of said device is provided with inclined ianges A2, to which the gun-barrel is connected. As a result of this peculiar construction the strain caused by the breaking down of the gun is applied across Vthe vertical side plates and the danger of breakage of parts is obviated.
