wlNnow-SUPPORI'.;
SPEC'I'FIGATION forming paie of 'Letters Patent No. 655,003', date July 31, 190'0.
` Atpuauotfuea Decanter 2, 1ste. sain N. 738,979. (No atan.)
Be it known that I, ISRAEL PAGE, a subject of Her Majesty the Queenof Great Britain, residing at the city and district of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in' Window-Supports; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact dcscriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for supporting a workman in windows while engaged in painting, cleaning, &c.`; and one object is to provide a window-support which is adjustable and removable and which may be compactly folded for storage or shipment.
A further object is to provide a windowsupport which is simple in construction, efficient and safe in operation, and. which can be manufactured at a moderate cost.
To these ends the invention consists in a Window-support constructedsubstantially as hereinafter illustrated and described, and delined in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts,
Figure l is a view in perspective, showing asection of a windowframe and a windowsupport constructed in accordance with this invention mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective showing the window-support detached from the window-frame and in its folded position, the position of the parts during the act of folding being shown in dotted lines.
In the drawings, A represents a Windowframe of any usual or preferred form, upon which is supported the frame A of the windowsupport. The frame A' is preferably constructed of metal end rods a, to which are fixed a series of brace-bars a' of suitable size to give strength' and rigidity to the frame. The frame may be covered by a suitable Wirenetting. The innei1 portion of each of the rods a is pivoted toa rod which extends downwardly at the edge of the Window-sill and is screw-threaded at its s extremity for engagement with a turnbuokle a2, in the other end' `of which is threaded the strap a3, having an orifice in its lower end for engagement with a suitable fixed hook a4. By means of this construction the frame can be suitably adj usted upon the Window-sill.
A back support A2is, hingedlyconnected to theframeA and is constructed of: the side bars a5, which are suitably bracedby the rods a6. The back support A2 isy retained in its raised positionV by means of the links al' and as, which are pivotally connected together and to the back support and the frame,
respectively, as clearly shown in Fig. l.
To each end ot' the back support A2 is hinged a side shield A3, which is preferably constructed of a frame covered with wire-gauze. Upon each of the links a7 is swiveled a catch 0.9, which is Vadapted to retain the side' shield in its opened position. Upon the underside of each of the end rodsa is fixed a down Wardly-extending lug al, which is adapted to rest upon the windowledge and support the frame A'.
To fold the support when not in use, it is only necessary to break the joint of the links a7 and a8, the side shields having been previously folded down upon the back support, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. The back support is then folded down fiat upon the frame A', the parts assuming the position shown in full lines in Fig. 3, thus occupying but little space. The operation of the-support and the manner of its use are believed to be sufficiently obvious Vin View of the above description,V and require no further detailed explanation.
It is obvious that the frame A and the back support A2 may be made extensible, if desired, so as to adapt the support to any size of window and to occupy less space when folded. This modification is too obvious to necessitate detailed illustration.
While I have herein shown a preferred-form of carrying my invention into effect, yetI d o not desire to limit myself to such preferred details of constructiombut claim theright to use any and all modifications thereof; which will serve to carry into effect the objects to be attained by this invention, in so far as such modifications and changes may fall within the spirit and scope of my said invention.
I claimH 1. A windowsnpport comprising a baseframe provided With depending links adapted IOO to rest `upon a window-sill, the angularrods pivoted to the linner'end of said base-frame, and having the depending threaded lengths, hooks adapted to be fastened below a sill, the threaded rods detachably connected to .the
hooks, andthe turnbuckles connecting the threaded rods and the threaded ends of the angular rods, whereby the entire support may be removed by disconnecting the threadedA g window-sill; a back support hinged to said frame; side shields hinged to said back support; lrods connected with said frame and adapted to extend downwardly on the inside of the window-frame; andan adjusting device connected with said rods and to a fixed point, located below said window-sill for retaining the support in its operative position, substantially as described.` Y
4. A window-support, comprising a suitable frame adapted to be supported upon a window-sill; a back support hinged to said frame; jointed links pivoted to said frame and to said back support; side shields hinged to said back support; a catch fixed to said links for retaining the side shields in their open position; rods connected with said frame;
va rod pivoted to eachof said-rods and adapted t'o extend downwardly on the finside of the window-frame; and an adjnstingdevice connected with said rods `and to a Vfixed point,- located below 'said window-sill for retaining the support in its operative position, `substantially as described. p
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand-in -the presence oftwo witnesses. h
o ISRAEL PAGE.
