INFLATION VALVE.
(Application filed Apr. 2, 1900.)

Warren id'ra'rns ATENI OFFICE.
MARION A. MORRIS, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE- SCOVILL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IN FLATIQ N=VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent inc. 654,552, dated. July 24, 1900.
. Application filed April 2, 1900. serial Noi 11,147. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARION A. MORRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Inflation-Valves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates, primarily, to valves for use in inflating pneumatic tires for bicycle and other wheels; and, the invention consists of a valve-plunger having laterally-disposed wings which, actin gin conjunction with the valve-casing, serve to guide the plunger in its travel in such casing, as I will proceed now more particularly to set forth and finally claim.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating myinvention, in the several figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of one form of inflation-valve provided with my novel plunger, which latter is shown in elevation, the valve-cap also being shown detached and in elevation. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the plunger detached, and Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the plunger.
The valve-casing a, valve-seat 0, external screw-thread (1, cap e, spring h, and plug 76 are substantially similar in construction and operation to the parts correspondingly desig nated in the patent granted to John H. Goss, assignor to the Scovill Manufacturing Company, No. 629,786, dated August 1, 1899.
The plunger Z may be of substantially the construction shown in the patent granted to John H. Goss, assignor to the Scovill Manufacturing Company, No. 610,985, dated September 20, 1898, excepting that its metallic shell or cap m is provided with the laterallyprojecting wings n, whose perimeters lie with in parallel circles throughout and are substantially concentric with the bore of the casing a and are designed to move in loose con tact with the wall of said bore, so as to guide the plunger in its up-and-down travel in the casing, and thus insure greater certainty in the opening and seating of the valve.
What I claim is 1. An inflation-valve, having a plunger provided with laterally-projecting wings whose perimeters are concentric throughout with the valve-chamber, and adapted to cooperate with the inner wall of the valve-casing to guide the plunger in its movements, substantially as described.
2. In an inflation -valve, a substantially frusto-conical plunger, having a metal cap constructed with laterally-projecting wings, the perimeters of which wings lie within circles of equal diameter, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of March, A. D. 1900. r MARION A. MORRIS.
