Description

' lTED STATES ATENT FFICE.
JACOB H. FLEISOI-l, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DlSPLAY- FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,138, dated J 1113 3, 1900. Application filed April 24, 1900. Serial No. 14,139. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAooB H. FLEIsoH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Display-Frame, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a display-frame for cravats, and particular] y for that style of cravats which comprise a made-up bow and a neckband.
The object of my invention is to provide a display-frame of minimum transverse dimension consistent with rigidity and durability in handling around'which the cravats may be clasped and by which they will be held in proper-spaced relation and which will alford ample depth to receive the bow without crush-- ing it, the frame also having sufficient body and strength in its structure to afford aserviceable display-frame which may be removed from the containing-box and handled without disarrangement of or injury to the goods.
Myinvention will be fully understood upon reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved display frame having the goods mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view without the goods applied. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the display-frame, taken in the line of two of the notches.
The frame comprises a rim or border 1, preferably of wood, with ends mortised or otherwise secured together in such relation as to form a light rigid structure, the rim being of sufficient depth to afford ample space for the bows 2 of the cravats and being provided on the rear faces of two of its sides with notches 3 for the purpose of receiving the bands 4 of the cravats, which are conveniently clasped around the frame by the usual fastening means 5 or in any other suitable manner, and a backing 6, of card, stiff paper, or the like, secured upon the rear face of the frame over the notches and slit coincident with the ends of the notches to form tongues 7, that yield to admit the bands 4, and thus secure the function of the notches, while the main body of the backing serves to hold the band in the plane of the back and leave ample depth in the frame for the reception of the bow. A further important feature of the backing, which is preferably secured to the rim by gluing, is to afford addi tional rigidity to the rim and make a stiff structure of the Whole that will greatly add to the convenience of handling the displayframe without necessitating the handling of the goods and without wearing or soiling the latter.
A display-frame as above described answers all of the purposes of the more elaborate and more expensive frames now generally in use, it takes up no more room when the goods are mounted upon it than if the same amount of goods were properly packed on a card, and it affords a much more durable and convenientlyhandled display-frame than does the card, and is more convenient for removal of the goods from the box than with the display-boxes now generally used. The outer perimeter is, moreover, straight and smooth, and there are no notches or corners presented in position to catch upon or disarrange other articles when handling, and thus add to the inconvenience of its use.
The frame may be provided with an aperture 8, by which to suspend it in convenient position for inspection. It might, however, also be provided with a tongue, of card or other material at the back by which to support it after the manner of an easel.
Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A display-frame comprising a suitable rim notched upon the rear faces of two of its opposite sides, and a card, paper, or the like, secured upon said rim; substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A display-frame comprising a rigid rim of transverse dimension sufficient to give depth to the frame, and having the rear faces of two of its opposite sides notched to afford bearings for the goods applied to the frame, and a backing of paper, card, or the like, secured upon the rear face of the frame and slit to provide tongues coincident with the notches and yielding to admit the goods into the notches to permit the serving of the functions of the latter, notwithstanding the backmg.
3. A display-frame comprising a rigid rim of wood or equivalent material having a straight outer perimeter, and having the rear faces of two of its opposite sides notched substantially as shown, to provide seats for the 5 goods applied to the frame, a backing of paper, card, or the like applied over the rear face of the frame and over the notches, and tongues over the said notches formed in the backing by slitting the latter coincident with the ends of the notohes, which tongues yield to admit the to goods into the notches and preserve the function of the latter, notwithstanding the backmg.
