TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTE LEON G-Eun'nnn'r, of Paris, France, have invented a new System of Bell- Loclcs Opening with or without a Key;" and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed sheet of drawings, making a part of the same.
This invention consists principally in the application of a bell worked by a mechanism in locks of every description, chain or pin-locks opening with or without a hey of any form, shape, or size, so that by merely turning)r the knob or handle of said locks the bell will ring.
The annexed drawings represent the application oi' a bell in a lock so called bec do camifgs. l, 2, and 3, and in a lock so called clarinette, figs. 4, 5, and G. The mede of motion of the handle or knob-loci: (bec de canne) ia the same as actually used For such sorts of locks, (sce igs. 2 and A small piece of iron, A, is made to it in a piece, B, of the handle-lock. By turning the handle or knob the piece A presses against a brass piece, C, whereby are lifted the piece D and the hammer Gr. When the piece C is liberated from thc piece A, the spring N drives forth the piece D, which holds the hammer, and the bell rings. The hammer-rod is stopped on its fall by the small pin M. When the knob or handle is liberated all the piece'sreassume the position shown, viz, the piece D is provided with trunnions l)lv D., iig. 2,' and the piece C C inserted in the trunnion Df has a hollow in it, iig. 3, from H to J, whereby it is allowed to turn freely from H to K, in hitting the stoppicce D. When the handle returns to its closed positioi1,"the piece A causes the piece C to turn from H to K, and drives it against the spring I. As seo'n as the piece C isliberated from the piece A, it reassumes the position shown in iig. 3, by the action of the spring P, which gently pushes it against the stop on piece D. There is a partition, U, to consolidate the inte-rior of the handle-lock, which partition has the hollowing required for the working of the pieces A and C so as to prevent their deviating. The bell is secured to a spindle riveted on the movable sheetiron plate which closes the internal part of the handle or knob-lock. The external face of the knob, iig. 1, has an empty space, R S, through which escapes the bell sound.
In the drawing which represents the bell-chain loch', gs. 8, 4,v and 5, there is, besides the above pieces, a swivel, T, to prevent at need the ringing of the bell. This swivel or stop may be applied to all bell-locks of the above descriptions. It it be desired that in turning the lock-knob the bell stands unrnng, by inserting any pin in the hole T of the swivel T, fig. 6, the said swivel shall be directed against the piece C, whereby this piece will be lifted against the spring P Without meeting, which will freely pass the piece A, and thus the bell will not ring. When it is desired that the bell should ring the swivel T is to be directed town-rds the bell in such a manner that-the picco may encounter the piece C, and that, in turning the locleknob, the escapement of said piece C may take place and the bell ring.
Figure 1 of the annexed drawings shows a front view of a bell-handle lock.
Figure 2 is a sectional'view of the same, the line of section being taken through 1-2, iig. 3.
Figure 3 is another section of the same through 3-4, iig. 2.
Figure 4 is the outside view of a bell-chain lock.
Figure 5 is a sectional inside view of the same through V X, iig. and
Figure 6 is a section of the same through Y Z, iig. 5.
1. The construction and arrangement of the piece A, secured to the piece B, of the handle-loclc working inthe hollowing of the partition stop-piece D, to which the hammer G is secured, having trunnions, DD, piece C, upon the trunnion D, working from K to H thereon, spring l", stop-pin M, and bell, as herein set forth for the purpose specified.
2. In combination with the above, I claim the adj ustable swivel T, whereby the ringing of the bell is prevented, as herein set forth for the purpose specified. l
