TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN; i
Be it known that I, EZEKIEL Tuner, of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and improved Combination of an Alarm and Look and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in'the art to make auduse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. V l p The present invention consists in so combining an alarm with a lock, and arranging it in connection therewith, that in unlocking the lock an alarm will be set free and sounded, and thus the approach and entrance of" burglars, or other parties, indicated to the occupants of the premises or room where the lock is applied. In the accompanying plate ofdrawing my improved combination of an alarm and lock is'illnstrsttd- Figure 1 being a view of the interior of the lock, showing the looking-mechanism and the connection between it and an alarm. V
Figure 2, a view of the key to the lock, shown in fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A, in the drawings, represents a box or case, in which the locking-mechanism B is arranged and an alarmbell, O, that by a hammer: or striker, D, is sounded, when the coiled springE is allowed to act upon such hammer, to throw it against the bell. F, the bolt of the locking-mechanism, which, through the key G, shown in fig. 2, is thrown out or drawn in in the operation of the key-bit upon the tumbler-plate-H, and the notch I of the tail or inner end of the bolt. K, a bar arranged across the bolt 1*,so set over the same, that on the turning out or drawing in of the bolt, the bolt, through the cut-out portion of its edge M, will be moved across the plane of movement of the bolt, on which movement it will be guided'by the guides N, suitably located therefor, on-the lock-case A. O, a spring, for forcing the bar back to its usual-position, after being moved by the bolt F, as just above stated. This bar K, by its lower end, when in the position shown in the drawings, sets into one of two notches, P P; a b'olt Q that is arranged within the lock, to slide in student thereoi',-running through the plates Q of the same. This bolt Q passes through 'the portion ofthefo'ase A wherein the alarm is arranged, and at or near its end therein has a pin, S, by means of which the stem T, to the bell-hammer, is held stationary when the bolt is out or the lock is looked, as is shown in the drawings.
In the unlocking of the lock, as the bolt is drawn in, to unlock the lock, the bar K is raised, and thus the bclbhammer stem set free for sounding the hell, by following the bolt Q to move out through the action of its spring U, and thus to remove the pin thereof from holding the said hammer-stem.- Y I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I The combinationof the lever-bar B and supplementary bolt Q, when arranged between the mechanism of lock and a suitable alarm, for operating substantially as and for the purpose described. v
