VEHICLE HUB.
(Application filed Oct. 21, 1899,)
(No Model.)
3 MIUMWGZ/ WWW I RESCUE BARNABAS PAGE,
PATENT OFFIC OF FRESNO, CALIFORNIA.
VEHICLE-HUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 650,415, dated May 29, 1900.
Application filed October 21, 1899. Serial No. 734,342. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, REscUE BARNABAS PAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fresno, in the county of Fresno and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Vehicle-Hub, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to vehicle-wh eels; and the object thereof is to provide an improved, simple, and eflicient means for preventing them from becoming dished and for holding the spokes in line after they start to sag or get out of true.
Heretofore much inconvenience has resulted through the dishing of wheels, especially in dry climates, when unseasoned material is used in their construction, owing to the contraction of the wood as the moisture is evaporated from its fiber.
By the use of my invention the spokes will be greatly strengthened, will be kept in perfect alinement, and any dished wheel can be repaired in a very short time.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to explain its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a vehiclewheel, showing my invention applied. Fig.
2 is a transverse section through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the reinforcing-disks, and Fig. 4 is a similar view of a slight modification.
Referring now to the drawings by reference-numerals, 5 indicates a vehicle-wheel provided with the usual hub 6 of any ordinary construction. Secured to the spokes '7 by suitable bolts 8 are the disks or rings 9 and 10, which surround the contour of the hub-flange 11, so as to make a continuous flange to strengthen the spokes. The bolts pass through registering openings 12, surrounding the central opening in each disk, and extend between the respective spokes, so
that they will not in any way interfere with the construction of the wheel.
In the modification, 13 represents a ring provided with openings for the reception of the bolts, and radiating from the periphery of said ring are a series of reinforcing-arms 14, adapted to lie snugly against the edges of the spokes, and converging from the inner edge of said ring toward a common center are a series of similar arms for the same purpose.
It will thus be seen that by the use of my invention an ordinary wheel may be repaired in a short space of time without employing the wheelwright machines now in use.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a vehicle-wheel, of a ring secured on each side of the spokes thereof and surrounding the hub-flange, radiating arms projecting from said ring, and inwardlyconverging arms'extending from the inner edge of said ring, both sets of arms being adapted to lie snugly against the spokes of said wheel, substantially as described.
RESCUE BARNABAS PAGE.
