IMPROVEMENT IN HARVE-STERL-PITMEN.-
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 64,9S5,-dated May 21, 1867.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB L. KINTNER, of Harrison county, in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Mowing and Reaping Machines; and do hereby declare vthat the following is a full, clear, and exact description .thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. y
My invention consists in the mode of connecting the pitman to the cutter-bar of areaping or mowing machine, and in such a manner as to prevent the jar and rattling of the connection.
In the annexed. drawings, l) represents the ordinary cutter-bar, to which is attached the pitman E, with wrist-pin C. Upon one end of this cutter-bar is formed a frame, A, Which is provided with-a square opening, into whichy are placed two journal-boxes, B B. Theseboxes are formed with a semicircular space on their inner faces, in the usual Way, but have each a vertical groove on their backs for iitting against the inner surface of the frame A.
It will be observed that the journals B B are placed Within the frame A, and the wristpin O of the pitman is passed Vthrough between the center ofthe boxes.
F F represent packing of any suitable kind, which is placed between the frame A and the grooves in the boxes, so that when the wrist! pin is inserted between the boxes it is held perfectly rigid, and can be readily tightened 1 when becoming loose by inserting additional packing. f
