TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: l
Be it known that I, B. Ii. FETHEROLF, of Tamaq'ua, in the county of Schuylkill, und State of Pennsyl` Vania, have invented a new and useful improvement in Gas Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The drawing represents the gas-generating apparatusA as applied to stoves.
This apparatus is designed for generating illuminating gas from petroleum for farnilynse by applying a gas generator to an ordinary cook or heating stove, like a Water-back or tire-brick lining, and thus, by means of thefuel used for domestic purposes, supplying the house withlight as well as heat, Iand making a saving. It
is very simple and' cheap in construction, requires but little attention to manage it, and is entirely free from danger.
A is a hollow iron block'made to tit in one side of a cook or heating stove, like a 're-brick or water-back, and is the gas generator. B is a reservoir for holding crude petroleum or refined oil, and is connected with the gas generator A by a pipe, a, on which is placed a stop-cock, b, to regulate the tlow of oil into the generator from the reservoir B. The pipe c leads from the generator A to a gasometer, C, constructed in the usual way upon a small scale, according to the needs of a family for gas. The pipe d is the main which leads from the gasometer C to the gas fixtures in the house. By introducing the petroleum or other oil -into'the reservoir B it passes gradually as desired through the pipe a into the generator A in the cook or heating stove, and being converted into gas by the fire used for domestic purposes is\ conveyed by the pipe e to the gasometer C, where, being passed through water and purified in the ordinary manner, itis ready for use as required. i
Having described my inventioni I claim the hollow metallic block A fvtted Within the Ere-chamber of a stove so as to constitute both a gas generator and'a lining or lire-back, substantially as described. B. L. FETHEROLF.
