TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, FEIiDENNAND KEEFER, of Greenfield, in the county of Hancock, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-IandPloughs; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
' In the annexed drawings, A represents the frame ofvthis plough, which consists of two beams placed parallel to each other, and secured fromthree to six inches apart by means of cross-bars whichare mortised into them. B represents a wheel which is placed between the beams A A, near their rear ends, having its journal hearings in suitable boxes secured to said beams. F represents a support which projects from the under side of the beams in front of the wheel B, and Which is divided at its lowercni'lltoreceive=between its parts a roller, G. H represents a shank, secured by api'vot or pin through its upper endQbetveen the two beams near their forward end. J represents a curved brace which runs up through an opening between the beams, and is provided with a series of holes through \vhichn pin passes to station-it at any desirable point. One end of this brace is secured to the shank H a .little below its centre. The lower end of the shank is provided with a plough-point, I, which has on one side of it a flange 0r Wing, 41, which answers as a small mould-board. D represents the plough-handles, and E represents a brace the for-ward end of which is hinged to the upper side of the beams near their forward ends. C representsa standard which is erected upon the upper side and rear of the beams, and which passes through a mortise in the brace E. i v
o n a I n s s r M In operating this plough, the shank H 18 ad usted so that its point will dip the proper depth in the earth.
The operator then takes hold of the plough-handles, and placing his breast against the curved or concave end of the guide E, forces the point I through the soil. The Wheel B and thc roller G prevent the point I from running into the earth too deep.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The arrangement of the beams A, the wheel B, roller Gr, and shank H, provided with the brace J and point I, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The hinged brace E, in combination with the standard 0 and beams A, as and for the purpose herein specified. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing Ihave hereunto set my hand and seal this 12th day of- March, 1867.
FERDENNAND' KEEFER.
