-STEAlVl-INJECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,274, date d March 13, 1900.
Application filed January 13, 1900. Serial No. 1,309. (Model.)
To @ZZ whom, it 7mo/y concern/.r
Be it known that I, FRANCIS STICKER, of
New York, in the county of New York and State of New Yorlghave invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Steam-Injectors;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the xo same.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in steam-injectors.
The object of the invention is to control the overflows of both the lifter and the forcer by I5 a single cock, of which the passage to the boiler is independent, such cock having a passage-way to receive the primaryand supplemental overflows of the forcer and the auxiliary overflow of the lifter.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of an injector embodying my improvement. Fig. -2 is a view of the cock.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the case or casting; a, the steam-inlet; a', the steam-chamber common to both the lifter and forcer; a2, the water-inlet; a3, the boiler-outlet, and a4 the overflow-opening.
B designates the forcer, and C the lifter. The delivery-tube l of the litter opens into discharge-chamber 2,which latter is extended by branch 3 tothe water-chamber 4 of the forcer and is provided with a second branch, forming the auxiliary overflow 5,which opens into the overiiow-opening CL4.
The combining-tube D of the forcer B extends through the spill-chamber G, from which extends a branch forming a supplemental overflow 7. The delivery-tube 8 of the forcer is fitted in a wall 9 of the casing, and the initiatory or overflow discharge therefrom is through the primary overflow l0, which also, like the auxiliary and supplemental overows, opens into the overflow-opening a4. The boiler-outlet a3 leads from the casing adjacent to the discharge end of the deliverytube. In the combining-tube D ofthe forcer I have shown spill-holes CZ, through which the steam may in starting the injector pass into chamber 6 and thence through the supplemental overow 7.
E is a cock which is passed transversely through the overflow-outlet a4. It has a single port b extending therethrough, the Same being designed to register with the auxiliary, supplemental, and primary overiiows. The cock is turned by a handle l2 on a spindle 13.A
In practice steam is admitted simultaneously to both the lifter and the forcer. It inds a ready outlet to the atmosphere, thereby instantly creating avacuum, eftectingthe lifting of the water. As this appears at the overilow the cock is immediately turned, cutting off all further discharge of Water from either the auxiliary, supplemental, or primary overilows, causing the established jet to pass directly into the boiler. No retardation upon the action of the lifter in starting the injector can occur, since the steam escaping through the forcer or through the spillholes in the combining-tube finds a ready outlet to the atmosphere. This permits the Water to be immediately discharged into chamber 2 by the lifter, and as its appearance through the auxiliary overflow 5 is simultaneous with its being taken up by the forcer the several overllows may be closed, the jet being established almost immediately.
I claim as my inventionl. A steam -injector having a lifter and forcer, an auxiliary overfiow for the lifter and a supplemental and a primary overflow for the forcer, and a cock intersecting said overows and having a single port therein, as set forth.
2. A steaminjector having a lifter and a forcer, and an auxiliary overflow for the lifter and supplemental and primary overflows for the forcer, the said forcer having spill-holes in its combining-tube opening into a spillchamber from which leads the supplemental overflow, and a cock intersecting said overflows having a single port therein, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specitication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. Y
FRANCIS STICKER.
