Description

(Application filed May 24. 1899.)
(No Model.)
fiziwasg' W WOW rrnn rn rns GEORGE LINOKS, OF JERSEY CITY, NEIV JERSEY.
JEWELRY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 645,108, dated March 13, 1900. Application filed May 24, 1899. Serial No. 717,997. (No modell) To call whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE LINCKS, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Jewelry, of which the following is a specification.
I willfirst describe my improvement in detail and then point out the novel features in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a rear View of an article of jewelry having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on the plane of the line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the article of jewelry with the supplemental piece absent from the pin; and Fig. 4 is a view of the supplemental piece which is shown in Fig.
' 1 as slid onto the pin.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates an article of jewelry of any desired material and of any desired design or ornamentation.
B designates a pin, shown as hinged at b. The free end of the pin B is intended to be capable of being caught in the catch 0 to lock the pin. The pin B is shown provided with a tongue, as b.
D designates a supplemental piece having a part d, through which the pin B may be inserted. This part (I is shown as provided with a groove d, and the sides of this groove are intended to fit snugly against the tongue I), so as to keep the supplemental piece D from turning when said piece D is in place on the pin B. It will of course be understood that the supplemental piece D may be slid off the pin B when desired. This removable supplemental piece D permits the use of the article of jewelry either for hair or dress ornamentation, hen it is desired to use the article of jewelry for dress ornamentation, the supplemental piece D is removed from in the dress and locked.
the pin 13 and the pin can then be inserted to use the article of jewelry for hair ornamentation, the supplemental piece D is slid onto the pin B and the pin then inserted through the hair and locked. The tongue and groove prevent the supplemental piece D from turning on the pin B, and therefore when the article of jewelry is locked in the hair the supplemental piece will hold the article of jewelry in proper position in the hair.
In order to facilitate the passage of the supplemental piece D through the hair of the wearer, I prefer to taper or point the opposite ends of the same, as shown.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
-1. The combination with an article of jewelry and its pin, of a detachable supplemental piece pointed at its opposite ends to facilitate its passage through the hair, and means for retaining said supplemental piece against turning when in position on the pin.
2. The combination, with an article of jewelry, of a hinged pin having a tongue, means for securing the free end of the pin and a detachable supplemental piece provided with a groove with which said tongue engages.
3. The combination, with an article of jewelry, of a hinged pin provided with a detachable supplemental piece, means for holding said supplemental piece from turning when in position on the pin, and a catch for looking the pin.
at. The combination, withan article of jewelry, of a hinged pin having a tongue, a detachable supplemental piece in which said tongue works, anda catch for locking the pin.
GEORGE LINGKS.
