OF .TUNSTALL, ENGLAND.
STAND FOR TRIAL-PIECES FOR POTTERY-KILNS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,915, dated March 6, 1900. Application filed. September 1711898. Serial No. (i91,266, (No model.)
To ctZZ zohom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J OSEPH PETER HOLD- CROFT, residing at 19 Park Terrace, l/VILLIE JAOKsON, residing at 8 Cooper street, and AR- THUR TOMKINSON, residing at 4 Woodland street, Tunstall, county of Stafford, England, citizens of Great Britian, have invented certain new and useful Improved Heat-Indicating or Trial Pieces and Stands for Use in Pottery and other Kilns, of which the following is a specification.
This our invention has reference to improved heat-indicating or trial pieces and stands therefor for use in pottery or other kilns, ovens, or furnaces within which clay or earthenware goods or other articles are fired for enabling the heat or temperature of such kilns or ovens to be readily controlled or regulated, the object of our said invention being to make more efficient and reliable heat-indicating or trial pieces for the purpose named than those hitherto used.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pressed or molded fire-clay, ganister, or like suitable refractory or heatresisting stand which we preferably use for supporting such heat-indieating or trial pieces; Fig. 2, a similar elevation to Fig. 1,showing in dotted lines the approximate shape assumed by such trial-pieces on such stands on attaining a certain temperature; Fig. 8, a plan View of the stand illustrated at Figs; 1 and 2, showing in dotted lines the position in which such composition sticks are placed on same for use; and
Fig. 4, a side sectional elevation of the stand shown in the above figures, taken on the line 4 4 of Fig.1.
On reference to the drawings hereto annexed, a represents a refractory or heat-resisting stand having an inclined central depression b rising at and extending from the front end to its rear end, such depression being open at front and back and having four curved steps, grooves, or ledges O at one side of such depression, at a short distance above and behind each other, and four similar steps, grooves,or ledges (Z at the opposite side of such depression.
We claim--- A refractory stand having a flat or other suitably shaped base for supporting such stand, a central depression extending from front to rear of such stand and open at front and back, the bottom of such depression rising toward the rear of such stand, and a series of steps ledges or grooves at each side of such depression as illustrated for holding composition sticks or heat-indicators, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands this 24th day of June, 1898.
JOSEPH PETER HOLDOROFT. WILLIE J AOKSON. ARTHUR TOMKINSON.
