ATTACHMENT FOR INK-BOTTLES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,540, dated February 2'7, 1900,

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD J. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Santa Monica, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a new and useful Attachment for Ink-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to attachments for common ink-bottles; and the objects thereof are to provide a simple and inexpensive attachment that will retain the cork attached to the bottle when it is open, so that it will not rest upon the desk and soil the same, and also provide a rest or rack for the penholders. I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of my attachment before the same is bent in shape and attached to the bottle. Fig. 2 is aside view of an inkbottle with my attachment placed thereon.

My attachment consists of the band A, surrounding the neck of the bottle and is stamped out of sheet-tin or other flexible metal. It has a hole B at one end, through which tongue C is passed in putting the band around the neck of the bottle D and is held in place thereon by being bent back upon itself, as shown in Fig. 2.

E E are strips projecting at right angles to the band A and are turned to form supporting-clamps to hold a penholder. There may be one or more of these clamps, as desired. F is a strip also at right angles to band A, having in the end thereof a hole H, through which string I is fastened. The other end of string I is fastened to cork J. It should be of a sufiicient length to prevent the cork from resting on the desk, and thereby prevent the ink, which usually adheres to the cork, from staining the desk.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. An attachment for ink-bottles, comprising a band surrounding the neck of the bottle, having a holeat one end and a tongue at the other; strips projecting at right angles from said band, said strips forming a clamp adapted to hold a penholder therein, the band being attached to the bottle and a cork-holding string attached at one end to the cork and the other end to the band, substantially as described herein.

2. An attachment for ink-bottles, comprising band A having hole C in one end and tongue B at the other, for securing same to the neck of a bottle, and strips E at right angles thereto forming penholder-clamps.

3. As anew article of manufacture, the

herein-described blank, composed of the strap A, provided at one end with the hole B and at the other end with the tongue C adjusted in width to snugly fit in the hole B, the blank having lateral projections E to form penholder-supports, and the cork-holding projection F having hole H to receive a string.
