Description

TTED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
CHARLES c. JORDAN, OE BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
WASHBOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming; part of Letters Patent No. 643,378, dated February 13, 190i).
Application filed October 30,1899. Serial No. 735,149. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. JORDAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washboilers, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in washboilers wherein means are employed for the circulation of the hot water and steam.
The invention consists of the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section through a boiler andl shows my improved construction and removable bottom, which latter is sectioned on the line l l of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the removable bottom and illustrates the same as divided into compartments. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of a portion of a lboiler with the cover removed and showing the removable bottom therein.
In the drawings, Adesignates an ordinary fiange c, which extends entirely aroundthe same. Partition-walls d extend across the under surface of the removable bottom and connect with the downward-projecting flange c, thereby forming on said under surface four compartments e. Short pipes f project upward from the top of the removable bottom, and one of said pipes opens into each compartment e. To permit the water and steam to circulate into the compartments, the flange cis provided with holes or notches g, which open from the boiler proper into each compartment.
The vertical wall of the boiler A is provided at intervals on its internal surface with keepers 7i, which are secured thereto by any suitable means. Short vertical pipes t' are loosely supported, each by two of the keepers h, against the vertical wall of the boiler, and each vertical pipe at its top carries a short lateral pipe h', which serves as a discharge-nozzle.
pipe t' is provided with a double elbow lc, which latter is adapted to be swung out or away from the wall of the boiler and take position over the removable bottom, as in Fig.
At its lower end each vertical l, and also connect with one of the short pipes f, projecting upward. The vertical pipe, nozzle, and double elbow may be raised and low ered vertically to connect with or disconnect from the short pipef. A handle Z is secured to the removable bottom for convenience in lifting the latter out of the boiler.
The operation is simple and as follows: When the removable bottom C has. been placed within the boiler and the severalelbows k connected with the pipes f, the device is ready for use. Water and steam from each of the compartments e will be forced up through the short pipes f, thence through the elbows k, up the pipes t', and finally discharge at the nozzle 7L on to the contents of the boiler.
When it is desired to remove the bottom C from the boiler, the several pipes t' will be drawn up through the keepers h until the elbows are each disconnected from the short pipes f. The elbows are then swung around against the vertical wall of the boiler, asin Fig. 3, and the removable bottom C may then be lifted out, leaving the pipes attached to the walls of the boiler.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi l. The combination of a receptacle; a removable bottom in said receptacle-said bottom provided with a plural number of conipartments each in communication with the receptacle and having a pipe opening into each compartment and projecting upward; and upward projecting discharge pipes loosely attached to thewalls of the receptacle and having double elbows for connection with the pipes opening into the compartments and adapted to be swung around against the side of the boiler when not in use.
2. The combination of a receptacle; a re- K movable bottom in said receptacle and provided With compartments in communication with the receptacle; keepers on the wall of the p receptacle; a pipe loosely supported by said keepers and having a double elbow, said pipe IOO and elbow capable of both a horizontal and vertical movement, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aix. my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES C. JORDAN.
