CANDLE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 642,494, dated January 30, 1900.
Application filed October 5, 1899- Serial No. 732,714. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM Sonorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Candle-Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to candle-holders.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap and efficient device for holding candles adapted to be hung against an inner wall of a chest or ice-box or the like and also adapted to clamp and hold candles of different diameters or sizes.
The invention consists in certain combinations hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective showing myimproved candle-holder, and Fig. 2 is a central section through the same on the line so a; of Fig. 1.
1 is a simple plate or casting having an annular flange 2 and upwardly-projecting wings 3 3 and an eye 4 either attached to or formed within the annular rim 2, through the medium of which the holding-plate may be suspended from a nail or hook projecting from a vertical wall.
5 is a handle having an upwardly-projecting clamping-wing, which, together with the wings on the plate,forms a socket within which a candle may be clamped and supported. This combined jaw, handle, and clamp is adjustable out and in and is held in any adjusted position by means of a thumb-nut 6. In order that the handle and wing may be adjusted through a suitable range, the rim 2 is cut away opposite the handle, so as to permit of the same sliding freely on the horizontal face of the plate.
It is my intention to have the surface of the plate carry legends or cards of an advertising character, thereby increasing the range of usefulness of my holder.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new is A portable candle-holder, comprising a plate having upwardly-projecting fixed Wings, a combined carrying-handle and candle-clamp adj ustably mounted on the plate,and a thumbnut for holding the movable handle and clamp in adjusted position, substantially as described.
