GEORGE RUSSELL, MCKEESPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
M ETALLIC WALL-COVERING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 641,237, dated January 9, 190i).
sat-m No. 718,738. No model;
Application filed May 29, 1899- To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE RUSSELL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at McKeesport, in the county of' Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Wall-Coverings; and I do hereby doe clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved metallic covering for walls and ceilings of rooms; and its object is to provide a covering for such purpose that will be fireproof, impervious to the passage of germs and vermin, and which will also be proof against the deteriorating influence of dampness in any form. I
I will now describe my invention, so that others skilled in the art may make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roll br package of myimprovedcovering. Fig.- 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view of the same.
My improved covering is preferably made as follows: I take a thin metallic sheet 1 of burned one or more coatings 3 of an enamel preparation, composed, preferably, of copal, linseed-oil, and a suitable coloring material, are applied to the exterior surface of the plate and such coating or coatings are also baked in an oven or :iln heated to about the temperature above mentioned. The desired ornamentation 4 in gold, bronze, enamel, &c. is then applied to the last-applied coating in any desired manner, preferably by means of the mechanism shown and described in Patin various ways and made to represent wall-T paper, either plain or paneled.
, The foregoing method is my preferred method of making my improved covering; but
it will be understood that other methods may be employed in making the same.
The advantages of my invention will be appreciated by those skilled in the art. It is economical to manufacture, durable, easy to keep clean, and is not liable to-crack and break, as ordinary wall-coverings, and, as before men tioned, is proof against disease-germs, fire, water, dampness, and vermin.
I claim- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a covering for walls and ceilings, composed of a plate of sheet metal having a coating on each side, one of said coatings having a burned enameled surface.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a covering for walls and ceilings, composed of a plate of sheet metal having acoating on each side, both of said coatings being burned and one having an enameled decorated surface. 3. As a new article of manufa ture, a covering for walls and ceilings, composed of a plate of sheet metal having a burned coating on each side.
4. As a new article of manufacture, a covering for walls and ceilings, composed of a plate of sheet metal having a burned primary coating on each side, a second burned enameled coating on one of the primary coatings; and decorations applied to the burned enam: eled coating.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signaturein the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' GEORGE RUSSELL.
