To all whom, it may conc rn:

Be it known that l, DANIEL Brennan CUT- LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the county of Bennington and State of l ermont, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Puzzles or Games, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as Will enable those skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.

Thisinvention relates to game devices; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in eonstruction and comparatively difficult of operation and which is designed to amuse and entertain both old and young.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which like reference characters denote like parts in both views, and in WillCh- Figure 1 is side elevation, partly in section, of a game device constructed according to my invention; and Fig. 2, a front elevation thereof.

Referring more particularly to the draw ings, a is a rigid base consisting of a block of Wood, sheet of metal, or other su table construction, and secured to one end thereof is an upright frame composed of side pieces I) and a top piece c, the latter shown in section in Fig. l, and the frame h cpreferably ranges upwardly at right angles with the base a and is provided with a front Wall d. (Shown in full lines in Fig :3 and partly in section in Fig. 1.)

The walls is provided w th a plurality of transverse. openings apret'erably circular,and said openings are arranged in any desired manner, but preferably according to a predetermined design, as shown in the drawings, there being four transverse rows'of openings g, 71,3, and 7e, and this arrangement may hear similitude, if desired, to the ports or embrasures of a fort. Each of the openings e is provided with an annular color-bandf, surrounding the same, upon the face of the Wall (2, and said color-bands may be tinted according to any desired arrangement; but in the drawings l have shown each of the openings ein each of the separate rows 9, 72,3", and it provided with a band f of different color from the bands of the remaining openings. If desired, however, the openings e may be designated by numerals orotherwise, the object of distinguishing the holes and rows one from the other being to assign to each hole-a certain value which shall accrue to the operator of the device, as hereinafter described.

Upon the rear surface of the wall (1 and surrounding each opening 6 is fastened a bag or receptacle Z, preferably of pliable textile material. Into each of the bags Z, through the corresponding openings, 21. ball or balls m may be passed in the operation of the game device, as hereinafter described.

Secured to the end of the case a opposite the frame I) c is a standard n, provided at its upper end with a yoke o, to each end of which is secured one end of an elastic band or loop 1), centrally of which is secured a flexible cup q.

A wire frame, comprising an end member '2" and side members 8, is supported at one end by legs 25, which are pivotally connected with the base a at each side and approximately centrally thereof by a hook-and-eye connection a. The frame b c and standard a are each hinged to the base a, as at m, and hooked catches or braces y, pivoted at one end to the base a, engage at the outer ends with eyes or rings .2, secured to each side piece I) and to the standard a, and by means of said hinged connections the catches y may be disengaged from the eyes a, andthe frame I) 0, together with the connected parts and the standard 71, may be folded downwardly upon the base a. Simultaneously the sides s of the frame 7 s are detached from the frame b c at o and folded down upon the base a by means of the pivotal connection of the legs tand the base a, as at a. The basket 20 is collapsible, and the whole device may be thus compactly stored away or packed for transportation.

The operation of my device will be evident from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following statement thereof: The person about to play the game places one'of the balls m, which may be of rubber,

My game device is simple in construction and well adapted to, accomplish the. purpose thereof, andlit is evident that many changes may be made in the construction and operation without departing from the spirit of 'my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patenti 1. In a game device of the class described, an upright wall provided witha plurality of openings, each of which is provided with a suspended bag, said wall being provided adjacent said openings with distinguishingsymbols, a basket supported in front of said wall, and a standard located adjacent said wall and provided with an elastic band to which is secured a cup, substantially as shown and described.

2. The herein-described puzzle or game de: vice, comprising a ball or other missile, abase, a frame hinged to one end thereof, and adapted to occupy an upright position, astandard hinged to the other end of said base, said tramebeing provided with a wall having a plurality of openings, each of which is provided with a suspended bag, said 'wall adjacent each of said openings being circularly colored, said standard being provided at its 'upper end with a yoke having an elastic band provided with acup adapted to. project said ball, catches pivoted to saidbase and adapted to sustain said frame and standard in an upright position, and a frame pivoted at one end to said'ban'and detachably connected at the other end with said frame and provided with a basket,substantially as shown and described.

In a game of thdclass described, abase,. an upright wall hinged thereto and provided with a plurality of openings, a standard also hinged to said base and provided with means for projecting an object through said openings, and a basket-frame pi votally connected with said base and detachably connected with said upright wall, substantially as'shownand described. p
