Description

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN PENNIE, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
SASH HOLDERAND FASTENER.v
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 638,882, dated December 12, 1899.
Application filed July 3l, 1899. Serial No. 725,579. (No model.) v
To all wil/0711, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN PENNIE, a citizen of lthe United States, residing at Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash Holders and Securers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invent-ion relates to a device for sustaining a window-sash in its raised position view in the adjustment required for sustaining the sash. Fig. 3 represents a detached perspective view of the device itself.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the upper sash, and I5 the lower sash, contained within a window-frame, the lower sash being adapted to be raised or lowered, as usual, within the sash-grooves.
On either guide-strip a of the windowframe I may conveniently attach the device constituting my invention. As illustrated, the said device consists of a leaf or plate b, provided with apertures c for the reception of woodscrews c, whereby said leaf may be attached to the guidestrip. To the leaf or plate bare hinged the auxiliary folding leaves d d', adapted to fold upon hinge-joints, so as to be out of the path of movement of the lower sash as the latter is being raised or lowered.
The device is attached to the gnidestrip atsuch an elevationthat when the sash is lowered the upper rail of the lower sash will clear the loweredge of the auxiliary leaf cl, whereupon by swinging said leaf-out over the sash-rail, as shown in Fig. l, the said lower sash is secured against being raised from without. On the other hand, when the lower sash is raised to its eXtreme height, so as to clear the upper edge of the lower auxiliary leaf d, the said sash may be held in its raised position, as shown in Fig. 2, by swinging said auxiliary leaf d outwardlybeneath the lower rail of the sash. These capabilities of the device will be fully apparent from the description herein given in connection with the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, whatv A device for securing and sustaining windowsashes, consisting of a plate or .lea-f adapted to be secured to a guide-strip of the window frame, said plate or leaf having auxiliary leaves hinged thereto, said auxiliary leaves being suitably spaced apart and adapted respectively to be swung out over the upper rail of the lower sash, and beneath the lower Witnesses:
