UNITED STATES JOSEPH MEYER WOLKOSKY,
OF IRWIN, PENNSYLVANIA.
ELECTRIC BAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,881, dated November 14, 1899.
. Application filed April 4, 1899. Serial No. 711,671. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH MEYER WoL- KOSKY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Irwin, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Bands, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in electric bands, and more particularly to that class composed of two different metals.
The invention has for its object to construct a band of the above-referred-to class that may be easily applied to the limbs or any other part of the body and may be adjusted and fastened to suit the patient.
The invention has for its still further object to construct a belt of two different metals that will cause an electric influence upon the system, and will be particularly applied to patients having rheumatic pains and the like.
My invention finally consists in the novel construction and composition of metals to be hereinafter more particularly described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout both views thereof, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing the preferred form of belt. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View of the same.
In the drawings, 1 indicates one-half section of the belt, which is preferably constructed of copper, and 2 represents the opposite section of the belt, which is preferably made of zinc. The two sections are hinged together, as indicated at 3, section 2 being provided near its free end with an aperture 4, adapted to engage a pin 5, which is rigidly secured on the outer face of section 1.
Particular attention is directed to the fact that in lieu of copper carbon or platinum may be employed in combination with zinc.
The reference-numerals 8 8 indicate an outwardly-bent flange on the upper and lower edge of the belt or band.
In actual practice it has been found that beneficial results have been derived, and cases of neuralgia in all its forms, nervous prostration, hysteria, nervous exhaust-ion, nervous headache, lumbago, sciatica, rheumatic fever, and muscular rheumatism have been cured by the use of my electric band or belt.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
I claim- An electrical belt, consisting of two sections, one of the said sections constructed of zinc and the other of copper, a hinge connectin g the one end of said sections to gether, and means for securing the opposite ends of the sections together, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
J OSEPI-I MEYER WOLKOSKY.
