Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 636,287,
Application filed August 8, 1 898.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, MARY JOSEPHINE POST, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Clasps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in connecting clasps or supporters for employment in connection with underwaist-s.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved connecting or supporting clasp adapted for detachable connection with a suitable support, such as a depending tape or an underwaist or a supporting belt or girdle, and which is arranged to detachably receive a hose-support or other attaching or supporting device.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in arrangements of parts, as is more fully and particularly described and set forth hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the clasp, showing portions of the Suspender-tapes detachably connected by the clasp and also showing part of the hosesupporter hung on the central hook of the clasp. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the clasp.
The underwaist to which my invention is particularly adapted is provided with suitable means to which hose-supporters can be de tachably secured and by which they can be supported from the shoulders, and such means are preferably, although not necessarily, arranged at the inner side of the waist and supported from the shoulder portion thereof. Tapes a a are provided for this purpose, and the lower end of the front tape and the lower end of the rear tape are brought and confined together beneath the arms and about the hips by myimproved clasp, which is also provided with a hook for supporting and carrying the hose-supporter b. There are two of such clasps provided and arranged at the sides or dated November 7, 1899. Serial No. 688,139. (No model.)
hips and supported from the shoulders by the tapes. The lower end of each tape is preferably formed with a loop, by which the clasp is secured thereto. Each clasp is bent from a single piece of spring-Wire to form the central upwardly-extending hook g at the lower portion of the clasp, with the two lateral inwardly-facing books 9' g on opposite sides of the lower portion thereof, the portion of the wire forming said hooks being twisted at g to form the upper vertical portion or body g from the upper end of which the two angular spring-arms g extend outwardly and downwardly in opposite directions, and each at its elbow or bend being coiled to form a spring 9 with its free end extended downwardly to catch in one of the lateral books or catches g. The supporting tapes or straps are secured together by passing said spring 9 through the end loops of the tapes and then catching the free ends of the arms in the hooks or catches 9', so that the tapes are secured detachably together and the clasp hangs at the side with its central hook to receive the hosesupporter. The clasps can be removed by releasing the spring-arms from their catches and passing them out of the loops in the tape ends.
I claim- A supporting-clasp for garments comprising a body portion having inclined top and sides forming spring-arms, a central depending hook portion which diverges centrally of its length and is provided with outward and inward bends forming loops and extensions to said loops which project inwardly and upwardly forming the hook all constructed of a single piece of wire, whereby the inclined top and hook are adapted to receive connectingtapes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MARY JOSEPHINE POST.
