CLOTHES-DRIER.
' SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 635,553, dated October 24, 1899.
Application filed March 27, 1899.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LBRUNO KIPPELs,residing at Moorhead, in the county of Clay and State of Minnesota, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in racks for use in drying clothes; and the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts,as' hereinafter specified.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my clothes-rack, showing one framesection connected at its inner edge with the outer edge of the inner frame-section. Fig. 2 is a perspective View showing two framesections connected to form an inverted-V- shaped rack, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing the frame-sections adjusted around a stove.
The post or upright A (shown in Fig. 1) has a suitable base A and is provided with the eyebolts B, arranged in pairs, those of each pair lying in line one above the other. The frame-sections G, which may in general rebars D D and the cross-rods cl. At one edge the frame-sections O are provided with the upper and lower hooks E E, fitted to engage the eyes B of the post A. The upper hook E is made slightly longer than the lower hook to facilitate engaging the hooks in the pair of eyes. At their edges opposite the hooks E E the frame-sections C are provided with the eyes I). As shown in Fig. 1, these eyesb are at the outer edge of the frame-sections and correspond in location with the hooks E E. This construction permits me to connect one frame-section, at its outer edge, to the inner edge of another frame-section, and thus permits the extension of the frame-section lat- Serial No. 710,660. (No model.)
erally, as shown at the right in Fig. 1. This laterally-extended frame-section may be one detached from the post, as shown in Fig. 1,
or it may be an extra frame-section specially provided for this purpose, as will be understood. This increases the capacity of the clothes-rack and also enables me to extend the sections in order to secure'the best results from the heat of a stox e or the sun or to take advantage of drafts in securing the drying. of .the clothes. v
The construction of the frame-sections with the hooks at one end and the eyes at the other also permits such sections to be connected edge to edge, as shown in Fig 3, so they can be set around a stove. By this means I am able to expose each frame-section equally to the heat of the stove and can reverse the sections from time to time, as may be desired, to secure an equal drying effect on all sides. The frame-sections may also be connected in pairs, as shown in Fig. 2, tovform an invertedv -shaped rack, one of said sections being provided with hooks F, pivoted at f and adapted to engage eyes G on the other section.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
In a clothes-rack, the combination with the post having eyes arranged in vertical alinement, of a series of detachable, rectangular frame-sections, one of whose vertical bars is provided with two hooks and the other with two eyes correspondingly arranged, whereby the said sections are adapted for pivotal attachment to the post and to each other, as shown and described.
