Description

No. 534,598. Patented Oct. I0, i899.
N. WHITTLESEY, TRUNK BINDING DEVICE.
(Application filed nb. 24, 1899.)
(No Model.)
- UNITED? STATES- PATENT OFFICE,
NELSON WHITTLESEY, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
TRUNK-BINDING DEVlCE.
' SPECIFICATION formingart of Letters Patent No. 634,598, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filed February 24, 1899. Serial No. 706,715. (No model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELSON WHITTLESEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Los Angeles, State of California, haveinvented a new and useful Trunk Binding Device, of which the following is a specification. 1
My invention relates to trunk-binding de vices, the object of which is to'provide a simple and ready means to secure a trunk against being broken open in handling. I accomplish this object by the means described herein'and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a trunk 'the'loop in the center thereof opposite to the ring B. These loops are preferably-of the same length and are made of any flexible non-' elastic material, preferably of fine wire, like picture wire cord. The attaching-cords are likewise made from flexible non-elastic or practically non-elastic material, preferably sash-cord.
G is a trunk having handle H at each end.
The binder is fastened upon the trunk as follows: The loops are placed under the bottom of the trunk, one near each end, with the attaching-cords projecting from the center of the ends. The ends of the loops D and D are then brought up over the top of the trunk and rest thereon, the loops crossing both front and back. The attaching-cord F is then passed up through the handle H and fastened in the ring E'; drawing the loop D and the cord F as tight'as possible without slipping and fastened. The attaching-cord F is then passed up through the other handle and through the ring E, and the cord F is drawn as tight as it can be'drawn and then fastened, thereby bracing the trunk in all directions and securing it from being broken open in handling.
In other trunk-securin g devices with which -I arnacquainted straps or ropes are used.
' T]16 manner in which my binder is fastened upon the trunk braces it at all points where the strain comes on the trunk in handling and is readily put on or removed from the trunk. Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is a l. A trunk-binding device, comprising two non-elastic loops, each loop being provided with a ring forming part of the loop, and a non-elastic cord secured to the loop at a point opposite the ring, and adapted to be tied into the ring in the-other loop whereby the loops may be secured together and around the trunk.
2. The herein-described trunk-securing device B, comprising two non-elastic endless loops asl), each having a ring as E, and a non-elastic cord as F attached to said loop at a point farthest removed from the ring, and forming means whereby the two loops are adapted to be secured around the trunk.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name, this 17th day of February, 1899, at Los Angeles, California.
NELSON VVHITTLESEY.
