GRINDING-MILL.
SPECIFICATION lforming part of Letters Patent No. 634,053, dated October 3, 1899.

State of Illinois, have invented certain new4 and useful Improvements in Grinding-Mills, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in mills of the class commonly known as feedgrinders and is fully described and claimed hereinafter.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure l is a central vertical section of a mill embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same with some of the parts thereof in different positions from those shown in Fig. l. Figs. 3 and 4 are det-ail views hereinafter fully described.
A is an annular chamber formed of two concentric rings A A2, connected at their bases by an outwardly-inclined bottom A3, preferably integral therewith and having vertical discharge-openings A4 therein, the outer ring A being provided with internal gear-teeth A5, and the inner ring A2 with an upwardlyprojecting ange portion AG, for a purpose to be mentioned hereinafter.
B is a driving-ring provided with external gear-teeth B and an annular concentric substantially parallel flange B2 of less circumference than itself, an outwardly-projecting rim B3, and a spiderB4, supporting a downwardly-extending tenon B5, adapted to enter a part to be hereinafter described, the driving-ring B projecting downward into the annular chamber A and the annular iiange B2 thereof proj eeting downward-'inside of the ring A2 of the chamber'A.
C is a master-ringhaviug verticalstub-axles CAand lugs C2 projecting downward from the lower facethereof.
C3 are horizontal pinions mounted on the vertical stub-axles C and meshing with-the gear-teeth A5 B' on the outer ring A' of the chamber A and the driving-ring'B.
C4 are antifriction-rollers mounted between the horizontal pinions O2 on bearings C5 in rbetween said iianges.
C are lugs to which a sweep (not shown) for rotating the master -ring C may be attached. D is an outside grinding-bur provided with a 'spider D', having a circular vertical opening D2 in the apex thereof and rigidly cony nected with the annular chamber A.
' Eis an inside grinding-bur, the counterpart of the outside grinding-bur D, provided with a countersunk mortise E in the upper central portion thereof to receive Athe tenen B5 on the spider B4.
Fis a yoke resting upon the spider B4 of I the driving-ring B.
Gis a long bolt exten ding vertically through the parts E B5 B4 F, whereinto it is secured i by means of the lever-nut H. The bolt G suspends the inside grinding-bur E from thedriving-ring B, and the lever-nut H serves to adjust the inside and outside grinding-birre E D by drawing them into closer proximity, or
.vice versa.
`The collar I and bolts'and nutsI l2 secure vthe driving-ring B into engagement with the antifrictiOn-rollers C4.
The purpose of the upwardly-projecting iiange portion Aonl the inner ring A2 and the downwardly-projecting flange B2 ou the driving-ring B is to prevent the grain being ground by the grinding-bers from escaping Unavoidably, however, sometimes a small quantity of ground feed does escape between the iianges A2 B2.
In 'that event it passes by the operation of.
gravity and by reason of the vibrations of the runningV mill downward between the ring-A2 .and driving-ring B onto the outwardly-in-- clined bottom A-3 of the chamber A and outward through the vertical discharge-openings'A2 therein.
The,antifriction-rollers C4 render the mill lightuunning, and thus easy of operation, and
the horizontalpinions O2 'serve'not only to communicate power from the master-ring C. to the driving-ring B and thence to the inside' grinding-bur E, but they operate' to speed them to a velocity double that Of the masterring C.
I claiml. In a grinding-mill, in combination, an annular chamber formed of two concentric rings .connected at their bases by an outward inclined bottoni having vertical discharge-openings therein, the outer ring` being provided with internal gear-teeth and the inner ring with anupwardly-projecting lange portion, a driving-ring, provided with external gear-teeth and an annular concentric flange, substantially parallel with and of less diameter than itself, the driving-ring projecting downward into the annular chamber and the annular concentric flange thereof projecting downward inside of the inner ring,r of the same, and the master-ring having horizontal pinions and antifriction-rollers mounted on bearings on the lower face thereof", the pinions meshing; with the gear-teeth on the outer ring` of the annular chamber and the driving-ring, and the antifriction-rollers heing,r adapted to traverse the circular bottom of the annular chamber, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a grinding-mill, in combination, an annular chamber Aformed of two concentric rings connected at their bases by an outwardinclined bottom having vertical dischargeopenings therein, the outer ring` being provided with internal gear-teeth and the inner ring with an upwardlbf-projecting flange portion, a driving-ring, provided with external gear-teeth andan annular concentric Ilange, substantially parallel with and of less diameter/than itself, and a spider supporting a downwardly-extending tenon, the drivingring projecting downward into the annular chamber and the annular concentric flange thereof projecting downward inside of the inner ring of the same, and the master-ring having horizontal pinions and antifriction-rollers mounted on bearings on the lower face thereof, the pinions meshing with the gearteeth on the outer ring of the annular chainber and the driving-ring, and the antifriction-rollers being-adapted to traverse the circular bottom of the an nular chamber, an outside grinding-bu r provided with a spider, having an opening in the apex thereof, and rigidly connected with the annular chamber, and an inside grinding-bur, provided with a countersunk mortise in the upper portion thereof` to receive the tenen on the spider of the driving-ring, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
