IMPROVEMENT IN PLOUGIIS.

TO ALL WHOM I'I MAY CONCEEN:

Be it known that I, JACOB I-IGE, of Shiloh, in the county of St. Clair, and State oi' Illinois, have mode certain new and useful improvements in Ilouvghs; and I do hereby declare that the followinr is n. full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates, firstly, to the making oi' a plough of one single piece of metal; and, secondly, to the formation of that piece thicker on one side than the other, so as to present the thickest part of the mouldbourd and share to that side of the plough nearest the land-side where the weer is greatest.

To enable those skilled in the art to make und use my improved plough, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. v

Figure 1, of the drawings, is api-.in ,of a. sheet of metal cut to the proper form to make a complete plough.v

The plate A, :is seen in iig. 1, is clipped to the proper .size and shape to form a complete plough. The line a a of the plate A is the sume :is the line of the front of' the share of the plough B, indicated by the same letters. From vthis bese line, as a starting point, the whole contour of the plough B may be easily traced us being formed from theplate A, as the sume letters of reference tire used to indicate the saine points in both figures. The plate A thus trimmed to the proper size and shape, a. slit, e L, is eut in it so as to leave the piece ej'h a of the proper'size and shape for the hind-side of' the plough. The plough is then completed by bending the huid-side piece doiyn into its proper position aiongside of the mould-board, by bending it along the line a it, and also by bending or pressing the part of the plate up into the proper form for the share und mouldboard. A small triangular piece, d c g, may be cut out of the plate, so as to give a better sli-.ipe to the inner top corner oi' the mould-board, but thu-t is all the waste that need be made after the plate has been properly trimmed to the shape desired: That part of the mould-board which is nearest the land-side will always wear thin much faster tha-ii the otherside, and for this reason I make the plate A say twice as thick along the side ttf as clour the side a b c. This gives suliicient thickness to the side most Worn, Without unnecessarily weighting down the side not worn.

Having described my invention, what I claim, is

l. As u new article of manui'ueture, the plough B, when formed of one single piece of metal, substantially as described and set forth.

2. I claim the plough B, when constructed with an excess of metal in that side of lthe mould-board und `share nearest the land-side, substantially as described and set forth.
