NrrnD STATES PATENT @FFICE@ RICHARD BOHRISCH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SASH-CORD FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,864, dated September 12, 1899.
Application filed August 11,1898.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD BoHRIsoH, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Cord Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to that class of sashcord fasteners in which the cords are provided with devices for removably engaging the sashes, so that at will the cords may be disconnected from the sash, thus permitting the removal of the sash.
This specification discloses one form of the invention, while the claim defines the actual scope of the invention.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a detail perspective of the means for connecting the cords to the sash. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective of the device for perm anentattachment to the sash-cord; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentarysectional View of the frame, showing the means for engaging the cord therewith.
This invention provides means by which the outer ends of the sash-cords may be removably connected with the sashes, so that whenever desired the cords may be disconnected from the sashes. To this end each sash is provided with a vertically-extending groove 12 in each side edge, one of which grooves is shown in Fig. 1. The lower edge of each groove 12 terminates in a countercavity 12, and secured rigidly in the lower portion of each groove 12 is a downwardlyextending plate 27, which overhangs the corresponding cavity 12.
The cord is provided with an attachment (shown in Fig. 2) which consists in two side or cheek plates 16, with serrated inner faces adapted to engage the cord and with boltholes through which may be passed bolts or Serial No. 688,337. (No model.)
other fastening devices for forcing the cheekplates against the cord. The cheek-plates are joined to each other by means of a yoke 18 at their lower portions, and each cheekplate is provided with an outwardly and up.- wardly extending finger 29, which fingers are adapted removably to engage the lower edge of the corresponding plate 20. Iivotally carried on the yoke 18 is an eye 19, which eye is adapted to be connected with a projecting pin or stud 30, fastened at any convenient point in the window-frame, as shown in Fig. 3, the connection of the eye with the said pin 30 being effected when the fingers 29 are disconnected from the plate 27.
In using the invention a cord supplied with my improved attachment is connected with the sash by engaging the fingers 29 with the plate 27. Should it be desired at any time to remove the sash, the fingers 29 may be disengaged from the plate 27 and the eye 19 engaged with the pin or with the windowframe or with any other device for holding the cord. The window-sash may now be displaced from the frame, and when desired the sash may be again eniplacedin the manner described above.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A fixture for saslrcords, the fixture having two cheek-pieces adapted to he one on each side of the sash-cord and having bolt-holes therein through which a fastening-bolt maybe passed, a finger secured to each cheek-piece and adapted to engage with the sash, a yoke serving to join the cheek-pieces with each other, and an eye carried on the lower portion of the yoke.
RICHARD BOI-IRISCI'I.
