ROBERT OEHRING, OF MEADOIV GROVE, NEBRASKA.
METALLIC CENTERPIECE FOR CEILINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,584, dated ySeptember 5, 1899.
y Application filed January 28, 1899. Serial No. 7031747. (No model To all whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, ROBERT OEHRING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meadow Grove, in the county of Madison and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metallic Centerpieces for Ceilings; and I do declare the following to be a f ull, clear, an d exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has relation to metallic centerpieces for ceilings; and the object is to provide a device of this character which may be easily and quickly removed when it is desired to repair the ceiling or to paint or repair the centerpiece itself.
A further object is to provide means whereby the lamp or chandelier may be supported from the centerpiece.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure lis a sectionalview of a ceiling, illustrating the application of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the cen-v terpiece. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the supporting-hook. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the block.
In the drawings, l denotes the ceiling, 2 the joist, and 3 the floor above.
et denotes the metallic centerpiece, which may be of any desired shape, configuration, or ornamentation, and which is provided with a central depression or recess 5.
6 denotes a bolt which extends through the floor above, through the ceiling, and through the central aperture 7 in the centerpiece. The block S is located upon this bolt and has its base corresponding to the curvature or shape of the central depression of the centerpiece. A hook 9, having a nut or interiorly-screwthreaded shank l0, is engaged upon the lower end of the bolt and serves to clamp the block firmly against the centerpiece, and thereby Vforce the edges of the centerpiece in firm ene gagement with the ceiling. This hook, if desired, may be provided with a pivoted safetytongue 1l, as shown in Fig. 3.
If it be desired to replaster the ceiling or to make certain changes in the building, a`
centerpiece made of plaster, as heretofore, could not be used, but would have to be torn down with the ceiling. In the present instance if it be desired to repair the building or replaster the room the centerpiece may be easily removed by unscrewing the hook and lowering the centerpiece from the bolt.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art Without requiring an extended explanation, and it will of course 'be understood that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without de-v parting from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with the metallic centerpiece provided with a central recess or depression, a block the base of which corresponds to and fits in theV central recess of the centerpiece, a bolt the lower end of which passes through the central aperture in the depression of the centerpiece and through the block, and a hook having a nut or interiorly-screw-threaded end adapted to engage the threaded end of the bolt and clamp the block in its recess in the centerpiece, substan tially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witmesses. V
4 ROBERT OEHRING.
Vitnesses;
