To to whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERBERT B. XVATER- BURY, of the village of Central Nassau, county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in String-Clamping Devices, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a clamping device made from wire by bending a piece of the latter oppositely between its ends to form two loops, one over the other,with the ends-of the wire in parallel extension projected laterally from the under loop for attachment and with the bends thus forming the loops where diametrically opposite to the wire ends crossing each other, whereby when a string is at one of its ends passed in under the upper loop and drawn upon outwardly the string becomes clamped at the intersection of the bends forming the loops and is tautly held and clamped thereby, and-by passing the free end of the string under the upper loop and pulling upon it the string is easily removed from the clamp. The said ends of the loop in parallel extension are inserted and fastened in one end of a sheet-metal tube, and in the other end of said tube are similarly inserted the ends of another corresponding loop.

Accompanying this specification to form a part of it there is a sheet of drawings containing three figures illustrating my invention, with the designation of parts by letterreference used in all of them.

Of the illustrations, Figure 1 is atop view of a pair of my clamps connected at their wire ends. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts illustrated at Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 shows two of the clamps connected as shown at Figs. 1 and 2 and used in connection with a piece of tape to secure a file of papers.

The several parts of the device thus illustrated are designated by letter-reference, and the function of the parts is described as follows:

The letters L designate the upper loop of each one of the clamps illustrated, and L the lower loop of each of the latter, the clamps being formed by bending the wire W oppositely between the ends E and E so that the loops L and L in their formation and Where their intersecting bends pass each other at P they will thereat produce a clamping connection,in which an inserted string will be clamped and grasped when the string is pulled upon outwardly, as shown at Fig. 3.

My clamp is used in pairs, which are shown to be connected at Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The

ends of the wire in each of the clamps are inserted within the opposite ends of sheetmetal tube T, with the ends of the latter flattened to grasp and hold the wires. As thus connected the opposite ends of a tape S can be connected at one of its ends to one of the clamps with the tape passed around a file of papers A and the other end ofthe tape secured in the other one of the clamps, as shown at Fig. 3.

Having thus described my invention, wha I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r In a string-clamp the combination of a piece of wire bent to form two loops, one above the other, the ends of said wire projecting from the lower loop, a sheet-metal tube into one end of which said wire ends are inserted and fastened, and another piece of wire bent correspondingly to the first-mentioned wire and having its ends inserted and fastened in the other end of said metal tube, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
