Be it known that I, C. B. A representenl base-plate in which a vertical stand or column B is'l secured, and on the top ofthe latter there is a horizontal circular plate or table D, the upper surface of which `is made concave or in disk form, and is encompassed by a metal band, E, which is bevelled at its upper edge tosuit the bevel of the' barrel-head of different sizes designed to rest upon it. On the stand or column B', directly underneath the plate or table D7 there is a circular plate or band, C, the outer edge of which is for the stavesl to restv against in the setting up of the cash or barrel. These plates are fitted ou the stand or column witha screw-thread or with set-screws, so that they may be readily adjusted higher or lower on the stand or column, as the length of the staves or the vsize of; the cask or barrel may require.` F represents a clamp, composed of three tubular arms, .6, which ertend radially from a central hollow hub, having a screw, G', passing centrally and vertically .into it. 'Ihe deviceis used as follows: One of the heads I of the barrel orcaslr tobe set up is placedon theplate D, and rests upon the upper edgeof .the rnetal'band E, the bevel of the headrbengon the latter, as shown in 'fig'. l. The hoop H,which is a chine-hoop, is then secured in the clamp F, 'and the latter placed en the head I. The. staves J, previously bent in bilge form, then jointed, ehamtered, and crozed, arethen insertednt one end between the edge of the head- I and the v-chiue hoop H, and drop in and rest against the circular plate C, the staves being all setup around 'the head, theedge ot' the latter beipg in the crozes bf the staves. The s taves, as thus setup, areallowed to hang freely, and when all `are thus adjusted the quarter hoop may be. placed on or yover the staves, the latter being adjusted inposition. The chine hoop may then be detached from the clamp, and the latter pressed' down and then the bilge hoop vput on. One-half'of the hoops are now adjusted on the Abarrel or cask, andlthelatter removed fromthe device, inverted, `and the remaining hoops puton and the otherV head adjusted in the cash or barrel'.y "In iig, 2l is shown a modification of the device. The barrels or cztslzs will allbe of the saine dimensions, es the stoves ore fitted to the headsinstead of the heads being fitted in the stoves, and if the `heads be of the saune diameter tliecatpacity of the barrels (.)rculsksl will be the serine. A variation in the lengthot the stovesV will ot' course make some difference in the capacity of a barrel or bask, but trilling compa-red with ay variation in the;dia.meter of the heads, but in this oase, es the stoves are all previously prepared by machinery, they of course willfbe of uniform length. y,
Having thus described my invention, l cla-im as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-.-

The setting up of barrels, ccsks, &c., by suspendingr the chine hoop by ineens of a clamp, or its equivalent, in such relation with the head, which is placed on zt suitable frame or support, that the ends of the stoves may be inserted between the head and chine hoop, substantilly as shown and described.
2. Tlieadjustable table 1) constructed with a concave upper surface and of o diameter smaller than that of the borrel, for the purpose described substantially as specified.
