Description

@with tutes gamut @frn EZRA M. ROBORDS, OF AVOCA, NEW YO RK.
Letters Patent No. 62,891, dated lfm'ch 12, 1867.
IMPROVBD METHOD OF DRIVING WELL-TUBESl i TO ALL WHOM IT MAYA GONOERN:
Be it known that I, EZRA M. ROBORDS, of Avocat, in the county of Steuben, and State oi', New York, have invented a. new und useful Improvement in Tubular Wells; and I do hereby declare that the following is n. full, clear, und exaot'description of the construction und opera-tion ofv the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making :t'part ofthis specification, in which- Figure 1, View of metallic case or cap.
Figure 2, vertical sectional view of sume, as indicated by the line :v y in fig. S.
Like letters in the two figures of the drawings indicate like parts.
The nature of, my invention consists in the construction of a metallic cuseor cup provided with a block or plug of zinc, or its equivalent, Within the upper part of' it, whereby, on asection ofthe tubing being united hy the cap, and when driven down, the said block of zinc or. other soft metal will protect the screw-threads that may he on the cap and on the tubing for connecting the two together. It is obvious that if the cup is made just so to fit on the tubing, when screwed thereon, as to allow the end thereof to come sufficiently in Contact;
with the upper part of the cup to receive the force of the hammering to drive the tube dow1i',the e'ect of .iu
will be to not onlyT injure the threads, but likewise the cap; hence the interposition of n substance of the nature of zinc to prevent this. l Y
The metallic' case or cap is represented by the letter C, (see igs. l und 2.) In iig. 2 will be seen the block of zinc c. It is introduced within the cap and lodged against the upper part of it in the manner deemed Imost proper. In practice the lower inner sides of the cap und the outer sides of the end of the tubingare provided with screw-threads. -The connection of the tubing with the cap is represented in red lines in tig. 2. t
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is*
The metallic case or cap C, provided with u block or plug of zinc e, o1' its equivalent, substantially in the manner and for the purpose as herein set fort-h.
EZRA M. ROBORDS.
