` UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'DILLON BEE-BE, OF NEWARK, NEV JERSEY..
FAUoET-'BUNGl SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 628,298, dated July 4, 1899.
Appia-.mottledDecemberzaisgs. sert-ANO. 700,185. (Nomadi-.1.)
To all whom, it may concern,.- v Be it known that I, DILLON BEEBE,a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in
-the county of Essex and State of New Jersey,
-it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of referencemarked thereon, which form apart of this specification.
` fe'ct in its operations andv functions; to secure This invention relates to certain improvements in that class of faucet-brings for ale or beer'barrels and thelike, represented by the one shown in my prior faucet'bung or valve, granted December 15, 1,896, No. 573,254, the objects of the present improvements being to reduce the cost ofconstruction, facilitate' manufacture, and enable a more exact and perfect valve body and seat'to be formed, whereby the valve will be rendered more pergreater strength to resist the strain occasioned when the bung-body is screwed into the bunghole of the package, andto secure other advantages and results, some of which maybe referred to hereinafter in connection with the description Of theworking parts. Y i
The invention consists in the improved faucet bung or valve and in the arrangements and combi-nations of Vparts of the same, all
substantially aswill behereinafter set forth, and finally embraced inthe clausesof the claim. -f j Referring to the accompanying drawings,
A in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the-several views, Figure l is a'central longitudinal section of `the improved faucet-bung. Fig. 2 -is a plan thereof. Fig. '3 is' a plan of -a` certain rear section of the faucet-bung' body. Fig. 4 is a s sectional View of the front section of said body, and Fig. 5 is aside elevation of said rear portion'.
In said' drawings, a indicates the bodyoff the faucet-bumT which is in sections a a2 the upper or front section od being threaded ex-l said seat to receive the hub c' of the key c, and the walls of the'chamber are provided with wide and narrow key-inlet slots a4 a5 to receive the correspondingly narrow and'wide lugs c2 of said key, whereby the said key can only be.inserted Within said chamber when in position to properly engage the triangular or otherwise shaped valve-head ,ff of the valve-body f.
The walls of the chamber Within the section ce arejalso provided with slightly-inclined.
grooves a6, by means of which the key c at the bottom of its hub is brought into impervious relation to the faucet-bung in-the usual Figa, to receive the lower or rear section,
'the latter ittin g intok said front section rather Vloosely to form a small annular` chamber to receivesolder `or brazing metal by which the sections are rigidly and strongly united. The
'side walls of the recess'are provided prefer- To secure an exact disposition ofthe lower f or rear section upon the front section, so that the wide and narrow grooves a4 a5 of the Lup- .per or outer section will 1with vfacility and without any particular care andst'udy inlvolving'an expenditure of considerable time bebrought into proper relationship to the ports or valve-openings au of vthe lower section, the sidewalls of the front section within said recess a7 are provided with inwardly-extending wide and narrow lugs d d', and the rear section a2 is provided at its forward end with notches a9 d10, which also vary in width in correspondence with the lugs d d', the said lugs of the upper section being so disposed p f that they will enter Vthe notches of the rear or lower section and properly bring the valve.-
openings of said rear section into operative relation with the slots or grooves 0,4 a5 of the front section and enable the key c, when inserted in said front section, to properly engage thevvalve-headand effect an opening of the said valve-ports.
me n
The-joint formed between the sections a a2 is formed at a point at which all'torsional strain, such as is brought upon the body in the act of screwing it into the barrel or keg, will be brought upon the one front section, the rear section being relieved of such strain, and thus there is no danger' of forcing the section providing the bearing for the wrench or screwing-tool from the section having the outer screw-threads.
At the rear or lower end of the rear section 0,2 the saine is provided with a valve-seat (L12 on opposite sides thereof adapted to receive the disk-valvef. This said disk-valvefcomprises, preferably, two disks f2 f3, connected to and operated by means of the head f in the manner shown and described in my prior patents. Said disks engage the opposite sides of the seat al, each forming a close joint to prevent the escape of fluid when the valve is closed. v
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new isl. The improved faucet-billig, comprising a front section et', exteriorly threaded, interiorly provided with a key-seat and means for holding the key in piace thereon and at the rear or back having a recess with lugs formed therein, and a rear or inner section e2, having a valve-seat and valve and' at the front edge having notches to receive said lugs, said sections being soldered, braced or iinperviously joined together, substantially as set forth.
2. The improved faucet-bung, comprising a front section o', having the key-seat, and a rear section a2, having a Valve-seat and val ve, one section fitting the other and having notches and lugs to resist torsional strain, and means for fastening said parts together, substantially as set forth.
3. The improved faucet-bung comprising afront section a having a key-seat and a rear section d2, having a valve-seat and valves, one section fitting theother and having Wide and narrow notches and lugs and brazing metal or solder joining said sections imperviously substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 17th day of December, 1808.
' DILLO-N BEEBE.
