SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 628,149, dated July 4, 11899.
Application filed June 21, 1898. Serial No. 684,092. (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARK SINCLAIR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hawthorne, in the county of Esmeralda and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Motors, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enablethose skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and. use the same.
This invention relates to spring-motors; and it has for its object to provide a device of this character which may be connected with a baby-carriage to rock the same and which is so constructed as to be readily moved about from place to place and which is capable of being stopped at will.
The invention consists of a spring-motor constructed substantiallyas hereinafter described, and defined in the annexed claim.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawings forrna part, in which the separate parts of myimprovement are designated by the same letters of reference in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my'improved spring-motor, showing a connection with a baby-carriage for operating the same. Fig. 2 is aside view of the spring-motor, the side of the casing being removed to show the construction. Fig. 3 is a top view thereof.
In the drawings, A represents my improved spring-motor, and E the connecting-cordby which the power is transmitted to a baby-carriage O, which is provided with the usual supporting-springs, as shown. The spring motor A is inclosed in'a suitable casing, in the sides of which is journaled the shaft b, upon which is fixed the spring-operated drum B. The spring-motor A is mounted upon the rear axle of the baby-carriage O. This shaft 1) projects through the casing at one side and is squared on its outer end for the reception of a Winding-key. The spring for operating the drum is inclosed therein and is operatively connected in the usual manner to the shaft 6 and the drum B. At one end 'of the drum B is fixed a large gear-wheel b, which is in mesh with a pinion d on the shaft (1. Near the opposite end of this shaft d is fixed a gearwheel D, and. upon the outer end of said shaft outside the casing is fixed a disk D, provided with a pin eccentricallylocated upon its outer face,whereby connection may be had with the cord E. Across the upper portion of the easing and near the end thereof opposite the spring-drum is arranged a transverse beam F, to which is secured one end of a spring f, at the outer end of which is attached a brakebar f. The brake-bar f is so arranged as to bear against the face of the large gearwheel I) and extends beyond the same out through a notched hole or aperture f in one end of the casing. A lug or pin f is arranged upon the side of the brake-bar which bears against the gear-wheel b and is adapted to enter a perforation f formed in the face of the gear-wheel, whereby the rotation of the drum may be stopped.
The gear-wheel D meshes with a pinion G, fixed on a shaft g, located near the end of the casing, and upon the other endof the shaft 9 is arranged a worm 9, adapted to mesh with a worm-wheel h, fixed upon a vertical shaft H, journaled at its upper end in the crossbeam F and at its lower end in the casing.
Near the upper end of the shaft II are fixed the blades of a fan h, which acts as a speedgovernor for the spring-motor.
- The cord E having been connected with the carriage and the spring in the drum wound up, the brake-bar is shifted so as to release the large gear-wheel and the mechanism be gins to operate, jumping or rocking the carriage by the alternate tension upon and relaxation of the cord E in connection with the action of the carriagesprings, as will be read ily understood.
