Description

No. 627,656. Patented June 27, I899. F. RINGS.
REFLECTING ACETYLENE LAMP.
(Application filed Dec. 27, 1898.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ RINGS, OF COLOGNE, GERMANY.
REFLECTING ACE TY LEN E-LAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 627,656, dated June 27, 1899. Application filed December 27,1898. Serial No. 700,395. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ RINGS, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing at O0- logne, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reflecting Acetylene-Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new or improved reflecting acetylene-lamp, the object being to provide a lamp of this kind which in its port able form may be very advantageously employed for lighting baking-ovens and the like for the purpose of allowing the baker to better verify the pastry within the oven than might be the casewith ordinary lamps and for lighting baking and ordinary rooms; and the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully set forth, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In order that the invention may be the more readily understood and carried into practical effect, reference is herein made to the accompanying sheet of drawings, wherein is illustrated the invention in its complete form.
In carrying out the invention I employ a foundation-plate or foot a, preferably made conical in shape and carrying the burner 19,
arranged on the vertex of said cone and communicating with a feed-pipe d, extending through foot a and provided with a handlee. The rear end of the feed-pipe d has a cock f for regulating the flame of the lamp, and said end is suitably coupled with the flexible pipe d, leading from the gas-supply, or,as in the drawings, from the carbid-holder. Z. The feed-pipe d is suitably connected to a Waste-tube h, having a cock 2', through which the condensation-water may be let out, whereby stoppage of the burner 11 will be efliciently prevented. Said burner is provided with a suitably-constructed reflector 0, made of brass, nickel, or like material and revolubly arranged on said burner, so that any required position might be given to said reflector, whereby any point of the baking-oven may be very intensively lighted.
The carbid-holder Z is screwed or otherwise removably secured to the lower end of watertank it and has a safety-valve m arranged on its outlet-pipe and adapted to be opened by a determinate pressure produced within the apparatus for avoiding. explosion. The watei' flow-controlling screw 0 has an index 0 and produces by its rotation to the left on scale at the proper flow of water upon the carbid. The eyes 1), secured to tank It, serve to secure the apparatus to the Wall or any other surface.
Asit may be desired to secure the lamp to a wall or the like for lighting a room, the foot a thereof will be provided with an eye 9 for the purpose of hanging the lamp, and in this case, of course, the reflector-will be given the proper position to direct the rays of the lamp for lighting the room.
As it is obvious that many changes in the construction and relative arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, I would have it understood that I do not re- .strict myself to the particular construction and arrangement of parts shown and described, but that such changes and equivalents may be substituted therefor.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with an acetylene-gas producing device, of a portable acetylenelamp, having a base, a reflector revolubly mounted upon said base, a gas-feed connection leading at one end into said base and at the opposite end in communication with the gas-prod ucin g device,a handle in said'connection, and a valved waste-pipe connected with the gas-feed connection and adapted to serve as an outlet for water of condensation.
FRANZ RINGS.
