YNE u NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK H. BERTSCI'IY, OF ALLENTON, WISCONSIN.
COMBINED SINK AND BATH-TUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 627,174, dated June 20, 1899.
' Application filed February 28, 1898. Serial No. 6711877. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I,FREDERIOKI'I. BERTSOHY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allenton, in the county of Washington and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Sink and Bath- Tub, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined sinks and bath-tubs.
The objects of my invention are, first, to economize space; second, to provide a kitchen bath-tub which will not ordinarily be exposed to view, and, third, to provide for economy and convenience in the arrangement of waterpipe systems.
In the following description reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is avertical central longitudinal section view of the same, showing the sink in a raised position.
Like parts are identified by the same reference-letters in both views.
A is a bath-tub provided with the usual waste and overflow connections B and (3, respectively. The bathtub is inclosed in a cabinet D, in the top E of which is located asink F. The entire top of the cabinet, with the exception of the portion G, upon which the pump or faucets of the water-supply are located, is hinged at H and adapted to be raised to a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 2, being supported in that position by a curved latch I, which engages a pin J in the interior of the cabinet. When so raised, water is admitted to the bath-tub through an opening K in the end of the sink, a funnel L being used to convey the water through the opening, as shown in Fig. 2.
When-it is desired to use the sink, the catch I, supporting the hinged portion, is raised to release it from the pin J, and saidhinged portion is then swung downwardly into a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 1.
For draining the sink I have provided the drain-aperture M with a depending spout N, to which a rubber hose N is adapted to be connected, as shown in Fig. 2. The other end of the hose is provided with a tubular stopper 0, adapted to fit the waste-aperture B of the bath-tub. With this construction the drainage from the sink is conveyed into the waste-pipe leading to the bath-tub without any communication with the latter. The
side of the cabinet is provided with an opening P, which is normally closed by a down wardly-swinging lid or door Q, hinged to the movable portion of the top of the cabinet at R R and adapted to swing inwardly to permit the insertion of articles into the bath-tub when the same is not otherwise in use. I am thus enabled to use the space underneath the sink as fully as if the bath-tub were no present. I
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A combined bath-tub and sink, compris ing a bath-tub, waste connections therefor, a cabinet inclosing said bath-tub and having a movable top portion, a sink located in said movable top portion and provided with flexible waste connections adapted to communicate with the waste connections of the bathtub, and common supply connections, communicating with the bath-tub through an opening in the end of the sink, substantially for the purpose set forth.
- 2. A combined bath-tub and sink, compris ing a bathtub, waste connections therefor, a cabinet inclosing said bath-tub and provided with a movable top portion, a sink located in said top portion, a tubular stopper for said bath-tub, flexible waste connections for said sink, secured to said stopper and adapted to discharge the contents of the sink there- .through, common supply connections adapted to communicate with the sink, and also with the bath-tub through the end of the sink when the latter is in its raised position, and means for securing said sink in a vertical position, substantially for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 19th day of February, 1898.
