To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, EDWARD FREEBE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city,county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a non-refillable bottle provided with an inner freely-suspended tubular valve-chamber which will remain in an upright position when the bottle is inclined within certain limits, and thus insures the seating of the valve.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal central section of my improved non-refillalole bottle; Fig. 2, a cross-section on line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the upper part of the bottle, showing the valve open; and Fig. 4, a longitudinal section of the upper part of the bottle, showing a modilication of the invention.
The letter A represents a bottle, into the neck a of which is permanently fitteda tubular sleeve l), having a number of partitions or guards b b2 b3, that extend partly across the sleeve to prevent access to the interior ofthe bottle. The guards b b3, projecting from one side of the sleeve, are horizontahwhile the guard b, projecting from the opposite side, is inclined and extends with its free end between the guards b b3, thus providing a large discharge-channel between them.
o is a freely-suspended swinging tubular valve-chamberhung within the lower portion of neck a, below the sleeve b, and projecting into the bottle A in such a manner thatit can tilt in any direction. To this effect the tube is suspended within the neck by a ball-andsocket joint, the ball or swelling c being formed on the upper part of the tube, while the socket is shown to b e formed partly within the neck a and partly within the sleeve b.
Vithin the tube c is contained a ball-valve d, normally seated upon the lower contracted end of the tube, as at c2. Below the valveseat the tube is provided with a flaring nozzle c3, which is adapted to lie iiush against the inner side of the bottle A when the latter is inclined below a horizontal plane, Fig. 3, and thus guides the liquid into the tube. The upper portion of the tube c has an increased bore and is provided with a number of inner radial ribs c4, between which dis= chargeeducts c5 are formed.
When the bottle is held with its neck down ward, Fig. 3, the valve d will leave its seat and the liquid can be freely poured out.
1f the bottle is held in an inclined position with the neck pointing upward, the tube c will at once swing so as to retain an upright position, and thus cause the valve dto remain settled upon its seat o2. In this way it will be seen that spurious refilling of the bottle is practically prevented.
In Fig. et the ball-and-socket joint is replaced by an annular flexible diaphragm e, by which the tube is so suspended from the bottle that it will swing into an upright position when the bottle is inclined.

a series of guards above such chamber, sub-V stantially as specified.
4t. A non-refillable bottle provided with an inner freely-suspended tubular valve-chamber having a lower flaring nozzle, a valveseat above such nozzle, and an inclosed valve, substantially as specified.
5. A non-refillable bottle provided with an inner freely-suspended tubular valve-chamber having a lower iiaring end, upper ribs and intervening ducts, an inclosed valve, and a series of guards above the chamber, one of the guards being inclined and projecting with its free end between the other guards, substantially as specified.
