PATENT OFFICE.
ORION JOHNSON, OF NEWTON, KANSAS.
ANGLE-IRON ATTACHMENT FOR WAGON-BODIES.-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 626,236, dated June 6, 1899. Application filed may 11, 1898. serial No. 685,719. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ORION J oHNsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing near Newton, in the county of Harvey and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Contrivance for Preventing Leakage Between Top and Bottom Boxes in Farm or Grain Wagons, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in the method of preventing grain, chop-feed, 820., from leaking out between the top and bottom boxes of wagons by providing a strip of angle-iron, as hereinafter described, and securely fastening it to the bottom edge of top box, which absolutely prevents the leaking of the smallest grain or seed through the crack between the top and bottom boxes.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a View of wagon-box with endboards taken out. Fig. 2 is a View of a portion of angle-iron with holes punched in it ready to be fastened to side or end board, and Fig. 3 is aview of part of top side-board with angle-iron attached to it.
I The upper side or perpendicular of angleiron A is to reach up from bottom edge on outside of top side and end boards about two inches and should have holes punched in it, so as to receive rivets, which pass through near the bottom of said side and end boards. The base of angle-iron B is to be of suifioient width to reach across the bottom edge of said side and end boards and should have holes punched in it, so that it may be nailed or screwed to bottom edge of said boards, as shown in Fig. 3, The lower side or perpendicular of angle-iron O is to reach down far enough from the top of bottom box on inside to pass all cracks and irregularities where top and bottom boxes come together when top box is in place. (See 0, Fig. 1.)
I am aware that prior to my invention devices have been made to prevent grain, chopfeed, die, from leaking out between top and bottom boxes in farm and grain wagons. I therefore do not claim such a combination, broadly; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a wagon-body, the combination with the top and bottom boards of the sides or ends thereof, of an angle-iron strip composed of the members A, B, C; the member A, passing to the outside of the top side or end boards, and the member 0, passing to the inside of the bottom side or end boards, substantially as described.
ORION JOHNSON.
